Workers struggle to find work
Sending a petition to Lao Dong Newspaper, a group of workers who used to work at Construction Company 189 (Company 189) with Mr. Nguyen Minh Tan as Director (No. 16 Phuoc Long Street, Nha Trang City) reported that this company had owed wages for many years.
Company 189 is the contractor for the construction of the Phuoc Long Apartment and Service Complex project - Apartment block (Grand Mark Nha Trang, No. 16, Phuoc Long Street). Currently, the Nha Trang City People's Court has decided to open bankruptcy proceedings against Dong Duong Nha Trang Construction Investment Joint Stock Company - the investor of Grand Mark Nha Trang.
Meeting with reporters, Mr. PTH - a surveying technician working at Company 189 from July 2022 to March 2023 - said that the company still owes him 20 million VND in salary.
According to Mr. H, Company 189 did not pay wages, causing difficulties for workers.
“Workers and engineers live mainly on their monthly salaries. However, the company has repeatedly promised to pay us but has not fulfilled its obligation to pay us. We have no other choice but to send a petition to the newspaper and state management agencies,” said Mr. H.
Because Company 189 does not pay salaries to its workers, many people choose to work outside to earn income to cover their daily living expenses.
Mr. LQT - engineer in charge of controlling construction quantity and quality said that after Company 189 owed him 104 million VND in salary, he quit his job to find a new job.
Mr. T explained that because he understood that Company 189 was currently facing difficulties, most employees chose to quit their jobs to reduce financial pressure on the business.
However, Mr. T affirmed that the company must pay the salary from 2022-2023 to the employees. Because, during the project construction process, everyone fulfilled the responsibilities assigned by the company.
Businesses commit to repay debt in September
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam - General Director of Dong Duong Nha Trang Construction Investment Joint Stock Company confirmed that Company 189 is the contractor for the Grand Mark Nha Trang project.
Regarding the delay in paying construction fees to contractors, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam said that recently, the real estate market has fallen into a general difficult situation, including the Grand Mark Nha Trang project.
However, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam also committed that in September 2024, when the project's loan application is disbursed by the bank, the investor will have money to pay Company 189. From there, Company 189 will prioritize paying salaries to employees.
Regarding the workers' reflection on unpaid wages, Mr. Ngo Anh Duyet - Chairman of Nha Trang City Labor Federation confirmed that the union organization had worked with representatives of Company 189 to grasp the situation in the process of protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers.
At the meeting, the company representative also pledged to develop plans to pay wages owed to employees. In addition to speeding up loan applications from banks, Company 189 and the investor will implement more plans to sell apartments to have a source of money to pay contractors and employees.
