1,342,090 workers participate in skills competitions

Hanoi – 1,342,090 workers have participated in skills competitions organized by businesses or competent authorities.

On April 1st, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) organized a workshop to collect comments and amend the Guidance on implementing Decision 1268/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Program "Promoting lifelong learning activities among workers at enterprises to 2030".

The workshop was organized with the participation of representatives of the Provincial and City Labor Federations, Central Industry Trade Unions, and Corporations directly under the General Confederation in the form of direct and online connections to 28 bridge points.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of the VGCL emphasized that for workers - those who directly create material wealth for society - lifelong learning is very meaningful, especially in improving skills, improving labor productivity to increase income and stabilize life.

Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour affirmed that over the past 3 years, the Trade Union has implemented the self-study movement, many models have appeared and organized training for many turns of trade union officials. This is the basis for the movement of self-study, regular learning, learning everywhere, at all times to help workers improve their qualifications and meet new requirements to be spread.

According to the 5-year report on the implementation of the Project "Building a Learning Society in the period 2021-2030" (Decision No. 1373/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister) of the VGCL, the political and legal goals require: Strive to achieve 70% of workers at enterprises being propagated, disseminated, studied, and thoroughly grasped of the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and policies related to workers associated with theoretical contents on the functions and tasks of the working class and the Vietnam Trade Union organization by 2025.

As a result, 4,801,741 workers at enterprises were propagated and disseminated the basic contents of labor law, trade union law, functions and tasks of the working class, and the Vietnam Trade Union organization reached 83.3%. Some units exceeded the target such as the Thai Nguyen Provincial Labor Federation reaching 93%, and some units reached 100% such as the Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union.

The goal on vocational skills requires: Strive to achieve 50% of workers at enterprises participating in learning to improve their skills and vocational skills by 2025.

As a result, 1,006,354 newly recruited workers were trained in short-term vocational skills by businesses, reaching 66%; 100% of workers were propagated and mobilized to participate in forms of knowledge training, tutoring, and skill improvement; 1,342,090 workers participated in skills competitions organized by businesses or competent authorities, reaching 24.9%; 2,117,782 workers were sent by businesses to study or self-study at educational and vocational training institutions, reaching 40.3%. The results show that the goal was implemented in the right direction, having a clear impact on labor productivity.
