According to Anphabe Company, in recent years, "Gig economy" ( Gig economy) has become a notable trend in Vietnam. In this economy, workers often look for jobs that they only need to commit to working for a short period of time, such as freelance or short-term collaboration. Due to low time requirements, participating in the Gig economy is gradually becoming an attractive choice for many workers, especially when the Vietnamese economy is experiencing many fluctuations.
The trend of participating in the Gig economy appears in all fields
According to a survey by Anphabe, on average, 6 out of 10 intellectual workers participate in the Gig economy.
Among different industries, the 3 industries that recorded the highest rate of employees participating in the Gig economy were the education/training industry (62.7%), advertising/communications industry (61.7%) and engineering/mechanical industry (60.6%).
Of all sectors, the lowest participation rate is recorded in the banking sector. However, the participation rate of the banking industry also reached 50%, specifically 49.6%.
In general, the difference in participation rate between different sectors is quite low, thereby showing that participating in the Gig economy seems to have become a trend in all areas of the Vietnamese economy.
Outstanding benefits of participating in the Gig economy: increasing income
When participating in the Gig economy, one of the notable benefits that workers receive is their income. Specifically, according to the results of the 2024 human resource survey conducted by Anphabe, among workers with two or more sources of income, up to 55.1% of workers said their second source of income was due to participating in the Gig economy.
Comparing between generations, if this rate is only 38% for Gen X, for Gen Y and Gen Z, this rate is recorded at 45.8% and 68.1%, respectively. It can be seen that the younger it seems, the higher the rate of workers receiving a second source of income thanks to participating in the Gig economy.
