According to the Can Tho City Employment Service Center (DVVL), as of August 2026, the labor use index of the entire industry in the city increased by 1.3% compared to the previous month and increased by 11.7% compared to the same month last year.

The electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning production and distribution industry increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month, a decrease of 1.5% compared to the same month. The water supply industry, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month and increased by 2.4% compared to the same month.
Labor in the state-owned enterprise sector is estimated to decrease by 0.02% compared to the previous month and increase by 17.7% compared to the same period last year. Non-state enterprises are estimated to increase by 0.5% compared to the previous month and increase by 17.9% compared to the same period last year. Enterprises with foreign direct investment are estimated to increase by 2.5% compared to the previous month and increase by 4.0% compared to the same period last year.
The above index shows that the labor use situation of enterprises is relatively stable, the increase and decrease are insignificant. The labor index increased due to the expanding production demand and recovery of the economy, the number of orders increased, promoting enterprises to recruit more seasonal workers and short-term workers to meet unexpected orders.
In August, the Center collected and statistically analyzed the labor recruitment needs of 85 businesses, with 5,593 vacant job positions to be recruited.

The city's labor market currently still records a large recruitment demand for the group of untrained workers, but the trend of shifting to high skills and expertise is also clearly taking place.
The recruitment demand of businesses is still very large in the group of unskilled and untrained workers to serve direct production, processing and simple labor positions, focusing on industries that use a lot of labor such as food processing, garment, woodworking, electronics and logistics. Due to accelerating production of orders in the second half of the year, businesses will prioritize direct, on-site labor positions with optimal costs and rapid response.
