Due to prolonged insurance debt, 35 sanitation workers in Quang Ngai are in trouble

Prolonged insurance debt has caused 35 workers in Quang Ngai to lose basic benefits, having to pay their own hospital fees and compensate to enjoy benefits.

Insurance debt of hundreds of millions of VND

The collective of 35 workers and laborers of the Dak Ha Commune Public Service Supply Center has just sent complaints to the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee, and Quang Ngai Provincial Social Insurance (BHXH) regarding social insurance regimes and policies.

Before the merger, 35 workers belonged to the Center for Environment and Urban Services of Dak Ha district, Kon Tum province (old).

In April 2022, the Inspection Committee of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee (old) announced the conclusion: Although there were no signs of profiteering from the social insurance fund at the Dak Ha District Urban Environment and Service Center, some leaders at this unit had violations, leading to not paying insurance money for 35 workers, civil servants, and laborers.

Kon Tum Provincial Social Insurance (old) and the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee requested to recover and interest for late payment of social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance, and labor accident insurance for workers with an amount of hundreds of millions of VND.

From 2007 - 2015, the center was forced to remedy and pay more than 512 million VND. From 2016 - 2022, more than 579 million VND had to be remedied. Leaders of the Dak Ha District Center for Environment and Urban Services through various periods seriously overcame violations, voluntarily paid insurance money to ensure the legitimate rights of 35 workers.

However, over the years, although the provincial level has issued directives and notices of conclusions, the remediation is still slow and incomplete, leaving many consequences and frustrations for environmental workers.

Workers in difficulty, crying for help

Ms. Vo Thi Quynh (32 years old, worker) said: "Because of being owed insurance contributions, workers lose many benefits regarding sickness, maternity, labor accidents...

I myself gave birth to a young child but also did not receive any benefits. The salary is meager, about 4 million VND/month; if I want to pay the debt insurance and the interest accumulated, it will not be enough to cover expenses and raise children to study.

Many workers who have reached retirement age, quit their jobs have to run around everywhere, borrow money to pay off social insurance debts to solve retirement and unemployment benefits...

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chung (43 years old, worker) angrily said: "For more than 10 years of attachment, working hard in a toxic and polluted environment, workers have all contributed to the service center to make streets and urban areas more green, clean, and beautiful. Streets are becoming more and more spacious, but workers' lives are becoming more and more difficult. The monthly salaries of workers and company leaders are all deducted from insurance contributions. I don't understand why that amount of money has not been fully transferred to the social insurance agency.

Now the circumstances of many workers are struggling and difficult; when sick, they also have to pay for hospital fees from their own pockets.

Labor, street garbage cleaning, pruning trees for many years in the rain and sun, and cold nights also do not help workers stabilize their lives" - Mr. Chung shared.
