Cao Bang strives to develop 613 new union members in the last 3 months of 2024

The Cao Bang Provincial Federation of Labor (FFL) has implemented many solutions to develop union members and establish grassroots unions (GCs) according to the orientation and targets set out in the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the work programs for 2024.

Cao Bang province currently has 782 trade unions with a total of 27,664 union members, accounting for 98.3% of the total number of workers, civil servants and employees. Of these, 689 trade unions belong to the administrative sector and 93 trade unions belong to the production and business sector, including 86 trade unions of non-state enterprises. Notably, the number of female union members is 18,085, accounting for 64.3% of the total number of union members.

Cao Bang province, with the characteristics of a mountainous and border province, with a system of enterprises mainly consisting of small and micro enterprises, has encountered many difficulties in developing union members and establishing grassroots unions. In particular, the majority of enterprises employ less than 10 workers, making the development of trade union organizations a challenge.

However, with the attention and direction from local Party committees and authorities and the support of mass organizations, the Provincial Federation of Labor has made many efforts in developing union members.

In addition, the Provincial Federation of Labor has also promoted propaganda and mobilization work, helping workers and business owners better understand the role and position of the Trade Union in protecting the rights and caring for the lives of workers.

By September 2024, the Cao Bang Provincial Federation of Labor had newly established 12 grassroots trade unions and grassroots trade unions, including 10 grassroots trade unions in the non-state sector and 2 grassroots trade unions in the informal sector, developing 371 more union members.

Due to many businesses facing difficulties in business, having to temporarily suspend operations or dissolve, some grassroots trade unions have seen a reduction in the number of union members. By September 2024, the number of union members in Cao Bang province was 27,664, an increase of only 232 members compared to the beginning of the year.

During the “Workers’ Month” and “Union Member Development Peak Month”, trade unions at all levels in the province actively organized propaganda and mobilization to help workers better understand the benefits of joining trade unions and trade unions, thereby attracting many workers to join the organization.

In addition to the achievements, the work of developing union members in Cao Bang province still faces many difficulties. Some district and city labor federations and industry unions have not really focused on surveying and developing union members, and there is a lack of diversity in propaganda methods. Moreover, the situation of business owners interfering in the process of establishing grassroots unions still exists, affecting the attraction of workers to participate.

In order to continue to improve the effectiveness of union member development work in the coming time, Cao Bang Provincial Federation of Labor will focus on improving the quality of activities of the Union Member Development Steering Committee and establishing grassroots trade unions.

At the same time, the unit will step up propaganda work and coordinate with competent authorities in inspecting and supervising compliance with labor laws at enterprises. In particular, the goal in the last 3 months of 2024 is to develop at least 613 new union members and establish at least 1 more grassroots union in the informal sector with over 15 union members. Thereby, the Cao Bang Provincial Federation of Labor hopes to improve the quality and quantity of union members, contributing to the successful implementation of union development goals by 2028.
