Vietnam General Confederation of Labor calls for donations to support people affected by storm No. 3

The Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has decided that the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund will support union members who died and were injured due to storm No. 3 .

On the afternoon of September 10, the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) held a meeting to discuss support for union members and workers affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi).

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang - Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - chaired the meeting; also attending were Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; Vice Presidents of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor: Phan Van Anh, Ngo Duy Hieu, Huynh Thanh Xuan.

Storm No. 3 is the strongest storm in the past 30 years, increasing in intensity irregularly, staying on land for an unusually long time, occurring over a large area and causing huge damage to people and property.

Based on the quick reports of some provincial and municipal labor federations, central industry unions... the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requested that provincial and municipal labor federations and central industry unions proactively send a document requesting the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund to support union members and workers who died due to the impact of the storm (10 million VND/dead person); union members and workers who were seriously injured and had to be hospitalized (maximum support of 5 million VND/person).

For localities and sectors directly affected by storm No. 3 including: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Trade Union, Vietnam Railway Trade Union... proactively identify subjects, based on the level of injury and property damage (houses with roofs blown off, floods swept away, landslides, damaged houses that need immediate repair...) to promptly support union members and workers, with support from union financial resources from 1 to 3 million VND/case.

Localities and sectors that cannot balance resources must submit a written request to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for support appropriate to the realities of each locality, sector, and unit (the request must clearly state the target, extent of damage, and specific level of support).

Along with that, the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requested the Confederation of Labor of provinces, cities, and central trade unions to call on union members and workers not affected by storm No. 3 to donate money to support areas affected by storms and floods, with the lowest support level being 1 day's salary/person.

The Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor directs provincial and municipal labor federations, central industry trade unions, and general corporation trade unions under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to urgently deploy and implement.

* On the afternoon of September 10, at the launching ceremony to support compatriots affected by storm No. 3 organized by the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang - Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - on behalf of the Vietnam Trade Union organization initially donated 5 billion VND.

* Also on the afternoon of September 10, in response to the call of the General Secretary, President and Prime Minister, the Vietnam Fatherland Front... the Trade Union of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized a fundraising event to support compatriots , union members and workers in localities affected by storm No. 3.

At the fundraising event, the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, officials, civil servants, and employees of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and its affiliated units donated to support local people affected by storm No. 3; each person donated at least one day's salary.

At the fundraising event, officers, reporters, employees and workers of Lao Dong Newspaper also initially donated at least one day's salary each, with a total amount of 65.9 million VND.

The total amount of money the organizers received at the fundraising event was more than 437 million VND.

Millions of arms turn to compatriots affected by storm number 3

Storm No. 3 (Storm Yagi) caused severe damage and impacts in many provinces in the Northern region.

"A piece of food when hungry is worth a whole package when full", with the spirit of mutual love that has always been a beautiful image of the Vietnamese people, the Golden Heart Charitable Social Fund calls on philanthropists at home and abroad to join hands to share with people affected by the storm and post-storm circulation.... to soon stabilize their lives.
