Grasp the development situation of union members
On September 11, Working Group No. 2 of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor led by Ms. Thai Thu Xuong, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, worked with the Hoa Binh City Labor Federation on developing union members and establishing grassroots unions in 2024.
Reporting to the working delegation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai - President of the Hoa Binh City Labor Federation informed that currently in Hoa Binh city, there are nearly 5,800 union members with 132 grassroots unions. From the beginning of 2024 to now, the Hoa Binh City Labor Federation has admitted 715/950 new union members, reaching 75.2% of the assigned target; newly established 2/3 grassroots unions, reaching 67% of the planned target.
According to Ms. Hai, currently, the small number of grassroots union officials in enterprises are still limited in terms of expertise and experience in union work, so there is not much motivation to attract and gather workers. Some workers only want to sign short-term contracts, so they are not confident in their commitment to the enterprise, are not keen on paying social insurance and joining the union. The development of union members and the establishment of grassroots unions still depend heavily on the employer.
In addition, the production and business model is affected by the weather and the prolonged epidemic, so many businesses have encountered difficulties and had to stop operating. Therefore, businesses have not paid attention to establishing trade unions; working conditions and hours also influence and affect the psychology and needs of workers, and they are less interested in participating in social activities and socio-political organizations.
Orientation of union development
After listening to the delegates asking questions, contributing many ideas and specific solutions, on behalf of the working delegation, giving a concluding speech at the working session, Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - praised the Hoa Binh City Labor Federation for achieving results in developing union members and establishing new grassroots unions.
In the coming time, the Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requested the Hoa Binh City Labor Federation to review and grasp information about enterprises that are eligible to establish grassroots unions or trade unions. Closely coordinate with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Social Insurance to inspect the compliance with labor and social insurance laws of enterprises. At the same time, carry out the task of protecting the legal and legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers to affirm that the union is truly a reliable support for union members and workers.
The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requested the Standing Committee of the Hoa Binh City Party Committee to continue to lead and direct the work of developing union members, establishing grassroots unions in the locality, and developing the Party in non-state enterprises.
At the meeting, the Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also informed about the launch of support for compatriots affected by storm No. 3; all levels of unions need to prepare well for Tet 2025 for union members and workers.
