Many businesses have built timely reward mechanisms
Speaking at Workshop Center No. 5 on the afternoon of June 3 with the theme "Implementing the emulation movement of Good Labor, High Productivity, Good Income to contribute to the achievement of the double-digit growth target", Mr. Le An Hai - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chairman of the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is being assigned very large tasks to contribute to the achievement of the country's double-digit economic growth target.
According to Mr. Le An Hai, double-digit growth means that the economy must maintain a growth rate of over 10% per year. If Vietnam's GDP scale last year reached nearly 500 billion USD, then in the following years it needs to increase by about 50-60 billion USD to reach a scale of 550-600 billion USD.
To achieve that goal, all sectors of the Industry and Trade sector must grow at a high level. In 2025, Vietnam's total import and export turnover will reach over 900 billion USD. Trade activities in the coming time need to maintain a growth rate of about 15 - 20% per year.
Regarding the energy sector, he said that for GDP to grow by 1%, energy demand usually has to increase from 1.5 - 1.7%. This poses a very large requirement for ensuring energy supply to serve economic development.
Regarding the market, he said that the population size of more than 100 million people creates stable consumption demand for essential goods. However, to achieve the required growth rate, it is not possible to only rely on traditional demand, but it is necessary to promote both the domestic market, exports and e-commerce at the same time.
According to him, the room for growth in breadth is increasingly narrowing, so growth in the coming period must mainly rely on improving quality, efficiency and labor productivity. This is also a decisive factor in the competitiveness of businesses and the economy.
Labor productivity is the key factor determining the competitiveness and development capacity of the production force," Mr. Hai emphasized.

From that reality, the Vietnam General Confederation of Industry and Trade identified the key task as deploying practical activities to support workers in improving their qualifications, skills and labor productivity.
At the same time, the trade union organization continues to accompany businesses in removing difficulties in mechanisms and policies; coordinate with state management agencies, ministries and branches to propose favorable policies, creating a better development environment for businesses.
Accompanying businesses and workers not only contributes to improving labor productivity, but is also an important solution to achieve the goal of double-digit economic growth in the coming period," said Mr. Le An Hai.
Mr. Le An Hai also said that one of the major orientations in the coming time is to expand trade union activities in the non-state economic sector, especially the private and small and medium enterprise sectors.
This will be a key area for the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union to implement activities to support improving labor productivity, developing vocational skills and building harmonious labor relations.
He said that many businesses have built timely reward mechanisms for new ideas. As soon as employees come up with initiatives, businesses can reward from 100,000 VND to 500,000 VND to encourage creativity. When initiatives are applied to production practice, the reward level will be calculated based on the efficiency brought to the business.
Some units apply a bonus mechanism at a rate of 5% to 10% of the profit value of the initiative implemented in practice," Mr. Hai said.
He cited that a unit under the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade awarded Tet achievements to an individual with an amount of up to 531 million VND thanks to an initiative that brought high efficiency in production and business. This is the case at Binh Minh Plastic Joint Stock Company.
Ensuring harmony between the rights of workers and the development goals of enterprises is the basis for building effective emulation movements, contributing to improving labor productivity, improving income and creating long-term motivation for workers," Mr. Hai said.
Some workers were rewarded up to 5 billion VND thanks to the initiative
Concluding his speech, Mr. Le An Hai requested representatives of grassroots trade unions, Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation (VEAM) to continue to share more initiatives and practical experiences to further clarify the role of trade union organizations in accompanying businesses to improve labor productivity and care for workers' lives.
Expressing his opinion at Workshop Center No. 5, Mr. Mai Manh Dung - Chairman of the Trade Union of Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation - JSC (VEAM) - said that to improve labor productivity and operational efficiency of enterprises, the role of companionship between trade union organizations and employers is extremely important.

Mr. Dung reiterated the views of Japanese businesses: Trade unions and business leaders are like two wheels on the same axle. Whether the car can operate depends on both wheels moving together.
According to Mr. Dung, to realize that view, every year VEAM Trade Union organizes seminars for foreign-invested enterprises in the system, including 4 joint ventures. Participants include representatives of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade, business leaders and professional and nghiệp vụ departments of the trade union.
In addition, Mr. Dung said that one of the contents of particular concern today is the impact of automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation on workers' jobs.
Machines are increasingly replacing human labor, AI is developing very quickly. When businesses have to streamline their apparatus, where will the labor force go?", Mr. Dung raised the question.
According to him, it is expected that in August, VEAM Trade Union will organize a thematic workshop to clarify the responsibilities of businesses and trade union organizations in supporting workers in the face of technological changes; and at the same time develop retraining plans, career change or support for cases that are no longer suitable for new job requirements.
At the discussion center, Mr. Dung cited that a group of workers at Honda Vietnam Company was rewarded up to 5 billion VND along with a trip to visit and study in the US thanks to an initiative that brought great value to the business.
There are initiatives that bring great benefits, but there are also small initiatives. The important thing is that all are recognized, encouraged and can be applied in practice," Mr. Dung said.
