Trade unions connect many forces, take better care of workers

Khánh Linh |

The Labor Federation of Lang Son province is promoting coordination with many agencies and units to take care of union members and workers more practically, closely to the grassroots level and more effectively.

Free health check-ups, welfare programs, essential goods support or cultural and sports activities for workers and laborers in the province in the past time are no longer implemented in a separate way. Behind that is the increasingly close coordination between trade union organizations and agencies, units, and businesses, thereby helping to take care of union members and workers in accordance with needs, at the right time and more realistically.

Ms. Be Thi Hoa - Chairwoman of the Labor Federation of Lang Son province - informed that trade union levels determine that coordination work is primarily to accompany agencies, units, and businesses, thereby better understanding the role of the Trade Union organization and the actual needs of union members and workers.

Through coordination, the parties jointly support and create conditions for trade union activities to be deployed synchronously and more effectively. Trade unions play a connecting role, thereby creating synergistic value and improving care efficiency.

From 2021 to now, the Provincial Labor Federation has signed coordination agreements with 29 agencies, units, and businesses. Among them, there are many typical programs with the Provincial People's Committee, Department of Health, Provincial Social Insurance, Provincial Business Association, Provincial Red Cross Society...

The coordination content is built in stages, closely following the needs of union members and workers at the grassroots level and in accordance with the functions and tasks of each unit. In the process of implementation, the parties regularly exchange and review to promptly adjust and supplement in accordance with reality.

As a companion unit in health care programs for union members and workers, Ms. Ngoc Lan Huong - Chairwoman cum Director of Thien Ngoc Lan Medical Co., Ltd. - said that coordination with the Trade Union organization helps health check-ups and counseling activities to be implemented for the right subjects, more conveniently and systematically.

Agreeing from the grassroots level, Mr. Chu Duc Que - Director of Cao Loc Regional Health Center - assessed that the multi-party coordination model has helped workers access health services more conveniently, especially during peak periods such as Workers' Month or Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chat - a member of the grassroots Trade Union of An Lang Son School Construction Joint Stock Company - shared that during the annual Workers' Month, she is both given general examinations and free tests, and receives essential necessities and shopping with many incentives. The practical care from the Trade Union organization helps her feel more secure at work.

In the period 2021 - 2025, the whole province had over 17,000 turns of union members and workers undergoing health check-ups with a total support budget of over 1.7 billion VND. Free examination and testing programs maintained annually during Workers' Month and Action Month for Occupational Safety and Health have supported nearly 1,000 turns of people.

Along with that, nearly 900 cultural and sports activities were organized, attracting over 134,000 union members and workers to participate; more than 16,600 union members enjoyed welfare programs with a total benefit value of over 2 billion VND.

In the past 5 years, through coordination between the Provincial Red Cross Society and the Provincial Labor Federation, more than 1,500 union members and workers have been supported with a total value of over 600 million VND.

Not only stopping at care, the coordination work also contributes to creating spillover effects, attracting workers to participate in the Trade Union organization. In the past 5 years, trade union levels have developed over 8,200 new union members, and established 37 grassroots trade unions, mainly in non-state-owned enterprises.

In the new context, the Provincial Labor Federation continues to expand coordination in the direction of "close to grassroots levels, close to workers", and is expected to pilot with over 10 commune and ward Party committees from April to promptly grasp and solve problems arising right from the grassroots level.
