Hai Phong Trade Union proactively negotiates after increasing regional minimum wage

For Hai Phong City Trade Union officials, the proposal to increase the regional minimum wage by 7.2% from January 1, 2026 is an important premise for grassroots trade unions to negotiate salary increases as well as welfare regimes for employees.

Partly meeting the expectations of employees

From July 1, Maple Company Limited (VSIP Industrial Park) increased the basic salary from 5.6 million VND to 6 million VND/person/month for more than 3,000 employees.

According to Ms. Bui Hong Lien - Chairman of the company's Trade Union, the company's basic salary increase was decided before the National Wage Council proposed to increase the minimum wage by 7.2%. However, the increase in the minimum wage of 7.2% from January 1, 2026 is also very important information for the union to propose increasing salaries as well as other benefits for employees.

The Chairman of the Trade Union of Maple Company Limited said that in fact, every year, the company conducts a survey on the company's payment level to ensure the monthly spending level of employees. Most workers believe that their current income is not enough to cover living expenses, especially in the context of escalating prices as it is now. With an average income of 12 million VND/person/month, workers can only temporarily cover expenses if their spouse or children are not sick.

"Although the salary increase of 7.2% is not much, it basically meets expectations, is a way to encourage employees" - Chairman of the Trade Union of Maple Company Limited Bui Hong Lien - said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong returned to Hai Phong from Hung Yen to work as a worker at VSIP Industrial Park. According to Ms. Luong, after a period of job changes at many companies, salary is still the most important factor for employees to decide to stick with the enterprise. Because salaries are also related to social insurance contributions, bonuses, the 13th month salary... Therefore, from the beginning of 2025, workers are very interested in the proposal to increase the regional minimum wage.

Through information from newspapers and radio stations, I learned that I have finalized a plan to increase the minimum wage by 7.2%. We hope that businesses will take positive actions, increase salaries as well as subsidies and allowances for employees, helping employees improve their lives and feel secure in their commitments.

Continue to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of employees

A representative of the grassroots trade union in the Japanese Industrial Park - Hai Phong said that although companies in industrial parks pay a basic salary higher than the minimum wage, increasing the regional minimum wage by 7.2% is very necessary at the present time. Because with this increase, workers' income can be improved, but if it only increases by about 5-6%, it can only compensate for inflation.

It is known that in Hai Phong, 92.4% of enterprises in industrial parks and clusters apply a minimum wage higher than the regional minimum wage (14.7%) with an average of VND 5,698,000. The average income of direct workers is VND 8,441,300/person/month, of which the minimum wage accounts for 61.7%. The minimum wage is an important part of employees' income.

During this time, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation continues to direct trade unions at all levels to promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of employees; negotiate and propose regimes and benefits to increase income and improve working conditions for employees. Units promote employees to comply with the law, improve productivity, promote creativity in production labor to contribute to the development of enterprises. Thereby, creating a basis for businesses to increase policies and benefits for employees.
