Organizing union meals simultaneously
Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor (NGLD) has just issued Plan No. 41/KH-LDLD to guide grassroots unions to organize the "Union Meal" program simultaneously on Friday, July 25, 2025. This is a practical activity on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union, contributing to spreading the spirit of sharing and solidarity between workers, employers and the Trade Union organization - Chairman of Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor Kha Van Tam shared.
Accordingly, the organizers are grassroots unions, departmental unions or union groups at units that organize daily lunches. The meals will include the value of daily meals plus support from union finance and socialized sources.
The Provincial Federation of Labor will directly organize "Union Meals" at 6 grassroots unions including: Innovation Precision Vietnam Co., Ltd., Greatlongview Vietnam Co., Ltd., Innovative Manufacturing Solutions Vietnam Co., Ltd., Apex Vietnam Shoes Company (Do Luong branch), Minh Anh Do Luong Garment Joint Stock Company and Thanh Chuong Group Joint Stock Company. The total estimated support cost is 120 million VND.
Within the framework of the program, grassroots trade unions will integrate propaganda on the tradition of Vietnam Trade Union, organize the admission of new union members, give birthday gifts, and encourage union members in difficult circumstances. According to the leader of Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor, "Union Meal" is not only a concern for material and spiritual life, but also demonstrates the role of negotiation and representation and protection of the Trade Union organization.
Completing the organization and establishment of 23 grassroots trade unions in communes and wards
In parallel with caring for union members, Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor is actively implementing the Project to establish Commune and Ward-level Trade Unions - an important step to improve the organization and effectiveness of trade union activities in the context of merging administrative units.
According to the regulations of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the establishment of commune and ward trade unions is only implemented in localities with 1,500 union members and 10 or more grassroots trade unions. For localities that are not qualified, the inter-commune/ward Trade Union model will be applied by merging adjacent units with many union members and many grassroots trade unions to ensure effective operation.
According to Ms. Phan Thi Trang - Deputy Head of the Trade Union Work Committee, Nghe An will establish commune and ward-level trade unions at 6 qualified units and 17 inter-commune/ward trade unions, bringing the total number of units to 23. The Executive Committees of the units include from 9 to 15 members, the Inspection Committees have from 3 to 5 members. Each unit has 2 full-time staff: 1 Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front who is also Chairman of the Trade Union and 1 full-time union staff, bringing the total number of union staff at the commune and ward levels in the province to 46 people. In some mountainous areas such as Muong Xen, Con Cuong, Que Phong... due to geographical difficulties and few union members, the province will arrange a Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to be in charge of union work to ensure effective operation, not leaving any locality with an empty union role.
Commune and ward trade unions will be an extension of the superior trade union organization in performing important tasks such as propagating legal policies; representing negotiations and supervising the implementation of labor laws; supporting grassroots trade unions in signing collective labor agreements; giving comments on local policies related to social security, labor, and employment.
Mr. Kha Van Tam - Chairman of Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor - affirmed: "The establishment of Commune and Ward Trade Unions not only complies with the Central's instructions but is also a practical requirement to ensure the role of representation, care for and protect the rights of union members and workers in the new period. With the strong direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the participation of the entire system, we believe that the Commune and Ward Trade Union model will gradually become effective, creating a solid foundation for trade union work at the grassroots level".
