Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union has signed agreements with 4 partners, committing to develop about 100,000 social housing units, of which more than 50,000 are rental and lease-purchase houses.

Focus on taking care of housing, health and welfare for workers

On May 4, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee organized a working session with the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation (LĐLĐ) on the implementation of the 18th Workers' Month in 2026.

Reporting at the working session on cultural institutions, Mr. Vo Khac Thai - City Party Committee Member, Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation - said that this is a key task in the term. Currently, on the basis of land and houses of the City Labor Federation, the unit retains 7 locations for repair, upgrading and putting cultural institutions into operation. Up to now, these locations have basically been completed and will organize activities to care for the material and spiritual life of workers.

In Workers' Month 2026, programs will be organized such as Workers' Youth Week, Workers' Children's Week, caring for workers' children and workers with illnesses, weak health or workplace accidents, expected to attract about 400,000 participants. At the same time, focus on housing care with the Trade Union Shelter program.

Regarding health, the City Labor Federation has signed with 7 hospitals to screen for diseases for workers. Initial results show that the rate of diseases among workers is quite high, including many dangerous diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis, and has promptly transferred them to local health centers for treatment. During Workers' Month, the unit strives to screen for about 10,000 more workers.

Regarding resorts for workers, phase 1 had 5,000 workers participating in resorts from socialized sources in Vung Tau. Phase 2 will be implemented from May to the end of 2026 with an additional 10,000 visits.

In particular, the City Labor Federation has signed agreements with 4 partners, committing to develop about 100,000 social housing units, of which more than 50,000 are rental and lease-purchase houses. Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union participates in 2 forms: lease and lease-purchase. It is expected that 2-3 projects will be started before July.

Taking the enjoyment of workers and laborers as the center

Speaking at the conclusion of the working session, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City proposed that after today's working session, the Standing Committee of the City Labor Federation organize a meeting to fully absorb the directing opinions. After 1 week, announce the trade union's preparation program on caring for union members and workers with the motto of taking the benefit of workers and laborers as the center...

These 3 major goals are the concretization of the implementation of the direction of General Secretary and President To Lam when visiting Ho Chi Minh City and meeting with city workers recently.

To implement effectively, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc proposed that the City Labor Federation review and strive to advise to have a smooth operating mechanism; the operating mechanism must be synchronized throughout the political system, with the chairmanship and coordination of the trade union; clearly define mechanisms, institutions and implementation organization models... Regarding key tasks, currently the city has identified 3 contents including social housing, worker accommodation; health check-ups, health screening for workers, especially female workers...
