Low rent, high security
In the last months of the year, when the number of orders is high and she often has to work overtime and come home late, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tuoi - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - can still work with peace of mind. According to the female worker, for more than 7 years she has rented a house here, although the rent is cheap, security is always guaranteed.
“The boarding house has security cameras, sturdy fences, clear gate locking hours, and the landlord regularly checks and promotes, so I can come home late from work with peace of mind and not have to worry about security or property theft,” Ms. Tuoi shared.
With cheap rent, suitable for workers' income, plus the fact that the landlord has not increased the rent for many years, and even gives gifts and lucky money to tenants during Tet, Ms. Tuoi feels even more warm-hearted and wants to stay long-term.
As the owner of the boarding house where Ms. Tuoi is living, Ms. Phan Thi Phuong (Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City), said that in addition to the reasonable rental price, participating in the "Safe boarding house model for women and children" has helped her gain more worker customers. Not only she responded to the model, but also the worker families who rent the house voluntarily comply with the regulations, helping the boarding house become more civilized, ensuring security and order at any time of the year.
According to Ms. Phuong, along with the attention and support from the Women's Union of Tra Noc Ward and the local police, the provision of fire prevention and fighting equipment, and propaganda on preventing social evils and domestic violence, tenants, especially women and children in difficult circumstances, are also regularly mobilized and supported by the ward.
Tenants must go through an “interview” At Mrs. Bui Thi Kim Dam’s boarding house (O Mon District, Can Tho City), anyone who wants to stay must go through an “interview” with a clear background, occupation, and comply with the general regulations of the boarding house.
This is how Mrs. Dam ensures the security of the boarding house and the lives of workers, especially in the last months of the year.
Along with screening tenants, Ms. Dam also participated in the model of "Self-managed Workers' Dormitory". Since joining, the Union and local authorities have regularly visited her dormitory to meet and promote security and order. Thanks to that, there has been no theft or social evils in the dormitory, and workers can go to work with peace of mind. Workers in difficult circumstances have also been visited and supported by the Union.
Living in Mrs. Dam's boarding house, Mr. Pham Van Cung - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - does not have to worry about security issues or property theft in the last months of the year. The male worker said that in addition to having cameras that are always on 24/7, the self-management team model has helped raise awareness and the security situation is getting better and better.
“This is the time when we workers have to work overtime to meet year-end orders. The boarding house is secure, I can go to work with peace of mind and be more effective,” Mr. Cung shared.
According to the Women's Union of Tra Noc Ward, the "Safe boarding house model for women and children" has been deployed by the Union at a number of boarding houses in the area since 2022. Over time, the model has developed effectively and is gradually being replicated. The goal of the model is to ensure security and order in boarding houses, especially protecting the rights of female workers and children.
