Ms. Bui Thi Mai is renting a room in Lane 21, Yen Xa Street (Phuong Liet Ward, Hanoi). Ms. Mai works as a worker at a fertilizer factory in Dai Thanh commune. Early in the morning of October 7, when it was raining heavily with thunder, Ms. Mai and her husband woke up to check if the water had flooded into the rented room.

At around 5am, water began to flood into the room. Before that, Mai and her husband had packed their belongings neatly, arranged rice and prepared some food. Ms. Mai's two children have been absent from school since October 6, so because they are still young (kindergarten and primary school), Ms. Mai's husband stopped working as a technology motorbike taxi driver to stay home to take care of their children.
Ms. Mai did not take her motorbike to work as usual because she understood that the water level had entered the rented room, so all the roads around the rented room had risen. At 7:00 a.m., Ms. Mai's company informed all officers and workers in the deeply flooded area not to go to work on October 7. If anyone can come to the company, they can still work normally.
"I went to the company group and saw that up to 80% of my employees reported that they could not go to work. The area where my company works is also deeply flooded, making it difficult for cars to travel, let alone motorbikes, Ms. Mai said in a low voice.
Mr. Bui Duc Tung is renting a room with 2 colleagues in residential group No. 5, Ha Dong ward. Mr. Tung is working as a worker at a mechanical company in Phu Luong ward.

On the morning of October 7, Mr. Tung and his friend woke up early to the sound of thunder and lightning on the roof. Fearing that the boarding house would have power outages as usual every time it rained, Mr. Tung boiled 2 piles of water.
"We don't cook because men are afraid to cook, for lunch we eat at the company, for dinner we go to eat rice. Today, it was flooded, it was uncertain if there were any restaurants opening for sale, but we also had difficulty wading through the deep flooded section to eat. I just boil water, and when I'm hungry, I'll eat instant noodles," said Mr. Tung.
Mr. Tung expressed his boredom and concern when the water around the boarding house was flooded with motorbike wheels. According to Mr. Tung, just last week, due to the impact of storm Bualoi, the boarding house he rented was flooded for 3 days. For all 3 days, he and his colleagues were pillowed up in the rented room waiting for the end of the day...
"The water recedes very slowly, the garbage floats everywhere, making daily activities and travel inconvenient and very difficult. We are planning to move to a rental place, but every time there is heavy rain and flooding for several days like before, it is so boring. I see that the water level on the morning of October 7 is still higher than last week, and it will take 3-4 days for the water to recede completely," said Mr. Tung.
