On January 28 (December 29), while all the streets were bustling with people returning to their hometowns to celebrate Tet, there were still people who chose to celebrate Tet far from home because of the burden of making a living.
At the workers' housing area (Hoa Cam Industrial Park, Cam Le District, Da Nang City), more than 40 worker households decided to stay in Da Nang to celebrate Tet. Without anyone telling them, as usual, these workers wrapped and cooked banh chung and banh tet together to celebrate Tet, creating a bustling atmosphere in a corner of the industrial park.
"I don't know how much it costs, everyone contributes sticky rice, everyone contributes meat, and together we wrap cakes and have a year-end meal," said Nguyen Thi Chien.
For the past 3 years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chien, a worker at Hoa Cam Industrial Park, has not been able to return home to celebrate Tet with her family because each month, the tuition, food and living expenses for her and her two children are almost equal to her salary.
That's why, after many years of working as a worker, Ms. Chien could not save enough money to return home to celebrate Tet with her family.
In addition, Ms. Van, a worker at Hoa Cam Industrial Park, recalled that last year, she and other workers also stayed in Da Nang to celebrate Tet. At New Year's Eve, everyone lit a fire and sang happily together.
Workers at the Da Nang workers’ housing complex said that most of the brothers and sisters staying here for Tet this year have not been home for Tet for a long time. Therefore, they consider this their second home. The bustling atmosphere and warm gathering of brothers and sisters seems to soothe the homesickness of the workers every time Tet comes and spring comes.
Previously, the Da Nang City Labor Federation organized the program "Tet not far from home" for disadvantaged workers at the Self-Managed Groups of the Dormitory Area on the occasion of Tet At Ty 2025.
The program "Tet not far from home" shows the concern of the City Trade Union for union members and workers who do not have the conditions to return home for Tet, thereby sharing and encouraging workers before Tet.
The program met and gave gifts to disadvantaged workers at the Self-Management Groups of the Boarding House Area in Son Tra, Lien Chieu, Cam Le districts and Hoa Vang district on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025.
