Workers brave the sun to construct a nearly 1,000 billion VND road

In Phu Tho, under the 40-degree Celsius sun, workers constructing the Luong Son - Xuan Mai connecting road project (phase 1) are still diligently working to ensure project progress.

According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the project is invested by the Hoa Binh Regional Project Management Board, with a total investment of nearly 1,000 billion VND.

This is an important traffic project in the gateway area of the Capital, expected to contribute to strengthening infrastructure connection and promoting socio-economic development.

To avoid the harshest sunny time of the day, construction teams arranged working hours from 6 am to 10 am and continue from 2 pm to 6 pm. However, from the early morning, the heat was already intense, making the work much more difficult.

Mr. Ho Ngoc Dai (from Nghe An, worker of Long Thanh Transport Construction Joint Stock Company) shared that peak hot days cause labor capacity to decrease significantly.

“Brothers have to drink water continuously to avoid losing strength. Working outdoors in the hot sun is very tiring, but everyone still tries to keep up with the construction progress,” Mr. Dai said.

According to Mr. Dai, to limit the effects of the hot sun, workers often take advantage of short breaks in the area covered by nets and then continue working. Cool water bottles prepared at the construction site help workers somewhat reduce fatigue in harsh weather.

Working at the construction site, Mr. Bui Van Thi (from Kim Boi, Phu Tho) said that outdoor construction in prolonged hot weather poses many health risks, especially at noon.

Until about mid-morning, the sun is very harsh. If standing outdoors for a long time, it is easy to feel dizzy and lose strength. The brothers have to take turns taking short breaks before continuing to work. Although it is hard, everyone encourages each other to try to ensure progress for the project," Mr. Thi confided.

According to records, many workers have to wear protective clothing, gloves, and hats throughout the working shift to ensure labor safety. In hot weather conditions, wearing full protective gear makes the body lose water faster and more tired.

To reduce the impact of hot weather, contractors have implemented many solutions to support workers such as arranging sunshade nets in the construction area, preparing enough drinking water and equipping air conditioners for workers working directly outdoors.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Vinh - official of the Hoa Binh Area Project Management Board at the construction site - informed that in addition to ensuring progress, the unit pays special attention to solutions to protect workers' health during prolonged hot weather.

Workers need to replenish water, take reasonable breaks between shifts and monitor their health during work. Construction teams are also arranged with flexible time," Mr. Vinh said.
