A rental room of more than 10 square meters, where the whole family of 4 workers lives
The family of Ms. Mui Thi Tac, born in 1987, from Moc Chau district (Son La) has been in Hung Yen for 2 years. Ms. Tac and her husband have 2 children, a young child in grade 5, the older child is 17 years old and has dropped out of school, also applying to work as a worker in Pho Noi A Industrial Park. Ms. Tac's husband has not yet found a job, lives in a congee house and takes his young child to school.
Ms. Tac is currently a worker at Uniben Joint Stock Company (Lac Dao commune, Van Lam district, Hung Yen), with a total income of about 10 million VND/month. The whole family depends on her salary and the salary of her eldest son who is a worker...
"My family only dares to rent a room of more than 10 square meters, without air conditioning, the rental price is 900,000 VND/month, not including electricity, water, and sanitation fees. It is very cramped, hot in the summer, but there are no conditions, limited income, and expenses must be cut to the maximum, so we have to accept it... said Ms. Tac.
According to Ms. Tac, she really hopes to rent a social housing unit with her own bedroom so that the family of 4 does not have to jostle to live together, and the children have more comfortable living space.
Near Ms. Tac's rented room is a 4-storey row of rented houses in Ngai Duong village, Dinh Du commune, Van Lam district (Hung Yen), where male worker Ha Van Tuyen, born in 1995, from Ba Thuoc district (Thanh Hoa) is renting.

Mr. Tuyen went to Hung Yen in February 2024, worked through several companies, and is currently a casting workshop worker, Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Hung Yen).
Talking to reporters, Mr. Tuyen said that his parents in the countryside were only farmers; he was divorced and had to send his children to his grandparents to work.
"Every month, I try to save money, sending home about 3 million VND so that my grandparents can take care of my 6-year-old son's education," said Mr. Tuyen.
Mr. Tuyen's rented room is closed, the rental price is 1.4 million VND/month, with air conditioning, including electricity and water, about 2 million VND/month.
Mr. Tuyen shared his dream of renting a social housing unit to ensure safety and buying cheap electricity and water.
Efforts to have social housing for workers to rent and buy
At the end of 2024, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor worked with the People's Committee of Hung Yen province to implement a trade union institution project in Hung Yen.
Accordingly, the two sides agreed on the Plan to implement investment and construction work for the project, including housing for workers and laborers to rent and cultural and sports institutions.
On the business side, Hoa Phat Yen My Urban Development Joint Stock Company (under Hoa Phat Group) plans to build a Housing Area project for low-income people in Yen My II Industrial Park.
The project has a scale of nearly 31 hectares, with a total estimated investment capital of about VND 4,964 billion. The investor plans to build townhouses and 9,000 social housing units; commercial and service works, cultural and medical houses, schools, parking lots, etc. High-rise social housing projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
Previously, on December 8, 2023, the People's Committee of Hung Yen province issued Decision No. 2660/QD-UBND on approving the housing development plan of Hung Yen province for the period 2021-2025. Accordingly, the average housing area of the whole province is expected to reach 29.1 m2/person by 2025. During this period, the province aims to increase more than 10 million m2 of housing floors, of which social housing accounts for more than 1.1 million m2.
To implement this plan, the Provincial People's Committee has allocated social housing projects to industrial parks and large urban areas.
One of the bright spots in Hung Yen province's policies is the special attention to disadvantaged groups in society, including low-income people, lonely elderly people and workers far from home.
