Retail industry simultaneously recruits seasonal staff
Speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Dang Ngoc Uyen Phuong - Deputy Director of Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket - informed that from December 1, the Co.op Mart supermarket system in general and Co.op Mart Can Tho in particular have entered the peak of Tet. Purchasing power at Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket has gradually increased and doubled on weekends. When there are large orders such as 1,000 - 2,000 gifts, the supermarket's official employees will have to work overtime continuously.
Accordingly, in addition to ensuring the storage of goods, the supermarket also increased the recruitment of seasonal workers to serve customers. “The supermarket’s Tet peak is about 59 days. Before December 1, the supermarket announced the recruitment of seasonal workers in all departments to support and serve customers. Currently, seasonal workers at the supermarket have gradually started working,” said Ms. Phuong.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Luong - Director of LOTTE Mart Can Tho Supermarket - said that every year, during Tet, the supermarket will need to recruit more seasonal employees due to the high purchasing power of consumers. Seasonal recruitment at the supermarket will be in 2 phases. Phase 1 is 45 days before Tet with positions such as gift wrapping and delivery.
The second phase will be 30 days before Tet for the cashier position. When recruited, all positions will be given specific job instructions and have quite attractive income.
“The 2025 Tet job market has been bustling with great recruitment needs. LOTTE Mart is increasing its recruitment of seasonal workers with more than 1,000 job opportunities in many different positions across the system such as: Tet gift wrapping staff, cashiers, order processing, sales... with attractive income and recruitment opportunities for official positions,” said Mr. Luong.
Although the demand is not high, Ms. Pham Thuy Hoa's retail store (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) is also looking to recruit 3-5 seasonal workers for Tet. The jobs will include arranging goods, serving customers and making payments with a negotiated salary. If working during Tet, in addition to the increased salary, seasonal workers will also receive bonuses and the opportunity to stay long-term.
Opportunity to earn extra income
Realizing the high demand for seasonal recruitment and the desire to earn extra income during Tet, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan (shipper, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) registered to do extra delivery work at a supermarket. Although it is only seasonal, the male shipper is quite excited because the salary is twice as high as his current job.
“Because it is seasonal, the salary offered by the employer is twice as high as the current delivery job. I will try to work hard to earn extra money to cover the Tet holiday and have the opportunity to stay long-term. Because the current shipper job is quite competitive, the income is also more unstable than before,” Mr. Nhan shared.
This Tet holiday, Nguyen Phi Nhung (student, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) also plans to find a seasonal job to earn tuition for the next semester. Accordingly, the female student is applying for a gift wrapping position at supermarkets and stores and is waiting to be contacted.
“Seasonal work is hard but the salary is high. Taking advantage of the fact that stores and supermarkets are recruiting and the school schedule is quite empty, my classmate and I want to take advantage of this opportunity to apply to earn money to pay for tuition. If we are hired, I will apply to work during Tet because my house is not far from the recruiting places, making it convenient to go back and forth,” said Phi Nhung.
