On May 13, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province issued a document assigning the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies, units and local authorities to synchronously deploy solutions to ensure occupational safety and hygiene (OSH) in construction works in the area.
According to statistics from 2022 to present, the whole province has recorded nearly 80 work-related accidents, causing 21 deaths and 20 serious injuries. Of which, the construction sector accounts for a high proportion, along with the mechanical, processing - preservation of aquatic products, mining - wood production, electricity, etc. sectors.
The main reason is determined to be that many units and enterprises have not developed and fully applied occupational safety and health procedures; employees do not strictly comply with internal regulations and safe working procedures. The lack of skills training, first aid, lack of equipment or the use of personal protective equipment are still common in many places.
Inspection work shows that many machines and equipment at the construction site are not safe, posing a potential risk of losing occupational safety and health. Stressful working conditions and high work intensity also lead to subjectivity and lack of concentration of workers.
Facing the above situation, production facilities and enterprises are required to develop a specific action plan, associated with the Action Month on OSH and the working month in 2025, ensuring practical and effective activities. Units must drastically direct and synchronously deploy solutions to prevent occupational accidents and occupational diseases; Review labor rules, organize dialogues, answer problems and share effective models on OSH.
In addition, the Provincial People's Committee assigned state management agencies to strengthen inspection and examination of compliance with labor laws, and at the same time advise and guide businesses to build and operate occupational safety and health management systems, especially at high-risk units.
At the same time, local authorities and trade unions at all levels will organize activities to visit and support workers' union victims and their families in difficult circumstances, contributing to spreading social responsibility and promoting improving working conditions for workers.
