The reception took place on the occasion of Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam - paying a courtesy visit before the end of his term of office.
The activity is even more meaningful as it is held ahead of the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2024), towards the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Year in 2025.
Also attending the reception were Mr. Joy Puentes Saldise - Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam and representatives of several departments of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL).
Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang congratulated Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen on his excellent performance in his duties, including his many contributions to promoting the relationship between the two Parties, two States, and two Trade Union organizations; and expressed his hope that in the coming time, in his new position, Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen will continue to pay attention to cooperation activities between the Vietnam Trade Union and the Cuban Trade Union.
The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor emphasized that the special friendship, comprehensive cooperation and traditional solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba are symbols of the times and invaluable assets of the two Parties and peoples. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is determined to continue to inherit and promote the everlasting legacy of President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro - pioneers in preserving and promoting the good, special, traditional friendship and cooperation that unites the two peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.
On this occasion, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor shared and expressed Vietnam's consistent solidarity and support for the just struggle of the Cuban people to demand that the United States lift the unreasonable economic embargo and blockade against Cuba for over 60 years.
Regarding the relationship with the Cuban Workers' Center, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has carried out many cooperative activities with the Cuban Workers' Center, achieving many important results. The cooperative activities between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Cuban Workers' Center have contributed to thoroughly grasping and concretizing the implementation of the Party's policy on people-to-people diplomacy and the common perception of the high-ranking leaders of Vietnam and Cuba, as well as the joint statement between the leaders of the two countries on the special friendship, tradition of brotherly solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries; affirming that the Vietnamese trade union organization always attaches importance to continuing to consolidate and strengthen the special solidarity, friendship, and exemplary loyalty between the trade union organizations of the two countries.
At the reception, Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen expressed his deep gratitude for the sentiments of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the State and the people of Vietnam towards Cuba. This was vividly demonstrated during the visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024.
Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen especially appreciated the cooperation, experience exchange and support of the VGCL for the Cuban Workers' Center, and proposed that the VGCL and the Cuban Workers' Center coordinate to organize a number of activities on the occasion of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Year (2025).
