Quang Ngai Youth Union members celebrate Tet in new houses

VIÊN NGUYỄN |

Thanks to support from the trade union, many union members in Quang Ngai have new houses to welcome the Lunar New Year 2025.

At the end of October 2024, the Dung Quat Economic Zone Trade Union and Quang Ngai Province Industrial Zones organized the acceptance and handover of the "Union Shelter" house to the family of union member Nguyen Thi Trami, in Mo Duc town, Mo Duc district, Quang Ngai province. Ms. Mi is a union member of the Textile Construction Company Limited's grassroots union. Her family lives with her parents-in-law in a cramped house with 8 people. Her husband does not have a stable job, her two children are of school age and her parents-in-law are old.

The family's economic situation is very difficult, thanks to support from the trade union, her family has a new warm house.

Ms. Mi shared with reporters: “With the support of 50 million VND from the Dung Quat Economic Zone Trade Union and the provincial Industrial Parks from the mobilized funds of enterprises in VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial Park, my family managed to build a 70m2 house. With a new, spacious house, our life has become much more comfortable. This year's Lunar New Year will definitely be warmer and happier than previous years."

Also in that joy, in early November 2024, union member Thoi Thi Mai, from the grassroots union of Perennial Cable Company Limited (Vietnam), also received the handover of the "Union Shelter" house from the Quang Ngai Provincial Federation of Labor and the Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Zones Union. As a single mother raising two young children, Ms. Mai's life was already very difficult. She said: "Thanks to the support of 50 million VND from the Quang Ngai Provincial Federation of Labor, I was able to build a new house with an area of 80 square meters. With a new house, I no longer worry every time storms and floods come."

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang - Vice Chairman of the Dung Quat Economic Zone and Provincial Industrial Zones Trade Union, said: "Since the beginning of the year, we have accepted and handed over 7 "Union Shelter" houses. The construction costs of 4 houses were supported by the Provincial Labor Federation's Social Fund, and the remaining 3 houses were mobilized by businesses in VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial Park."

The "Union Shelter" houses are not only new places to live, but also a source of trust and motivation to help union members be more steadfast in their work. This is a clear demonstration of the deep concern and responsibility of the Trade Union organization in Quang Ngai for workers with difficult housing circumstances. In addition, the Trade Union also works with the Quang Ngai provincial government to help families with temporary and dilapidated houses, aiming to eliminate temporary houses by 2025.

According to information from the Quang Ngai Provincial Federation of Labor, in 2024, 85 more union member families facing housing difficulties will be supported to build houses through the "Union Shelter" program, bringing hope and positive changes to many difficult circumstances in the province.
