Unemployment, finding new jobs but many workers have high requirements on income, working conditions...

Present at the Hanoi Employment Service Center to attend the online job fair connecting 9 northern provinces and cities held on May 29, Ms. Doan Thi Lan, 31 years old (currently renting a room in Dong Da district, Hanoi) looking for accounting work.

Ms. Lan said that she has 10 years of experience as an accountant and has worked for 3 companies. At the job fair, Ms. Lan wanted to find a job in Dong Da district, with a minimum salary of 13 million VND/month. On the morning of May 29, Ms. Lan interviewed online with 2 companies, one in Dong Da district, one in Ha Dong district, but neither of them paid the salary as Ms. Lan wanted.

"Both companies required me to take a 1-month probationary period, with a starting salary of 8 million VND. If I sign an official contract, my salary will be 10 million VND/month, then it will increase gradually," said Ms. Lan.

Regarding the reason why the salary did not meet the requirements of the candidate, Ms. Lan said that businesses thought that she had only graduated from intermediate level. While with a salary of 10 million VND/month, businesses can recruit accounting staff who have graduated from regular university, and have more quality personnel for extra training.

Regarding Ms. Lan's 10 years of experience, the company also said that the companies she used to work for were small, and she was not a general accountant, so the salary of 13 million VND/month could not be met.

Not only Ms. Lan, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet Ha (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) said that she has 2 years of experience in the tourism sector, specializing in Italian. "I came to the session hoping to find a job with the right Italian skills, the desired salary is from 15-17 million VND/month. In case today's connection is not successful, I have declared data and personal information according to instructions. When there is a suitable job, the employer will connect with me," said Ms. Ha.

On the morning of May 29, both Lan and Ha could not find a satisfactory job.

Present at the recruitment session, Ms. Kim Nguyen - Human Resources Department, Khang Linh Pharmaceutical Company Limited (Dong Da District, Hanoi) attended the online job fair connecting 9 provinces and cities with the goal of recruiting human resources for 5 positions, including general accountant, marketing staff (3 categories) and sales staff.

Regarding qualifications, the company does not require too many requirements and is willing to train candidates without experience. However, on the morning of May 29, Ms. Kim Nguyen was only able to recruit a few employees in the sales staff category.

Ms. Kim Nguyen said that she often represents the company at job fairs to find workers, but the recruitment process shows that in the context of economic difficulties, many businesses have laid off workers and the unemployment situation in working age is still quite high, many workers and candidates are quite "dreamish" when making high requirements on income and working conditions. This is the reason why businesses are looking for more people but candidates have difficulty connecting jobs.

Mr. Vu Quang Thanh - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center said that there was a job fair with a maximum salary offered by a business of 15 million VND/month, but many candidates still proposed a salary of 17 million, even 20 million VND/month when interviewing. In addition to the proposal for a high salary, many candidates have even offered other conditions for fuel support, benefits, etc.

If candidates want to find a job, they should consider their own requirements to have a common voice with the employer. In reality, there are many candidates who start working in modest positions, with probationary salaries sometimes only 6-7 million VND/month, but after striving and demonstrating their abilities, they have worked to become managers, with a salary of tens of millions of VND/month, Mr. Thanh recommended.
