Vietnamese workers send about 6.5-7 billion USD/year back home
At the recently held meeting, dialogue and difficulties for businesses operating in the field of sending Vietnamese workers to work abroad under contracts, Acting Director of the Department of Overseas Labor Management Vu Truong Giang informed that in the first 10 months of 2025, the whole country sent more than 120,000 workers to work abroad, reaching 93.2% of the annual plan.
Of which, Japan continues to be the largest market receiving Vietnamese workers, with more than 55,000 people. Second place is Taiwan (China) with more than 47,000 workers, followed by South Korea with nearly 10,000 workers. In addition to traditional markets, many other markets in the European region such as Germany, Rumani, Hungary, Russia... remain stable.
It is estimated that by the end of 2025, the total number of Vietnamese workers working abroad in the period of 2021-2025 will reach about 636,000 people, equivalent to 127.3% of the plan (500,000 people).
Workers working abroad have stable income, significantly higher than the domestic income in the same industry and qualifications. Each year, Vietnamese workers send about 6.5-7 billion USD back to the country, making an important contribution to the national foreign currency, increasing accumulation, and improving the lives of themselves and their families.
Simplifying procedures, expanding opportunities for Vietnamese workers
In addition to the achieved results, the Ministry of Home Affairs also frankly shared that the field of sending Vietnamese workers to work abroad still has many limitations and difficulties.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vu Chien Thang pointed out that some enterprises have high fees and not transparent selection, causing difficulties and frustration for workers. Along with that is the weak and irresponsible management of the State management system and grassroots government.
"This makes it difficult for workers to identify which place is contract labor, which is non-profit, which is commercial... This situation makes people who are already disadvantaged even weaker, and those who are already disadvantaged become more disadvantaged" - Deputy Minister Vu Chien Thang stated.
According to the Deputy Minister, there are cases where people borrow from policy banks to work abroad, but then cannot leave the country, lose money, get into debt, greatly affecting the lives of themselves and their families. In particular, the Deputy Minister mentioned difficulties in mechanisms and policies. Some cumbersome administrative procedures, through many layers and intermediaries, cause difficulties for workers and businesses.
To resolve this issue, from the Party's policies and direct instructions of the General Secretary and Prime Minister, the leaders of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a thematic resolution, including 6 groups of issues that need to be resolved immediately such as simplifying and streamlining administrative procedures to facilitate people and businesses.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is reviewing and finalizing the Decree amending Decree 112/2021/ND-CP.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also decentralized and delegated authority to localities in the field of sending workers to work abroad, while promoting digital transformation in handling administrative procedures, minimizing businesses from having to contact enforcement officers. The Ministry also streamlined the apparatus of the Department of Overseas Labor Management, improved the quality of cadres, changed the working style and civil service here.
