In recent years, the work of improving the working environment has always been of interest to Quang Ninh province, especially to enterprises and trade unions in the coal industry.

Logistics work according to production teams

At Hon Gai Mechanical Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin, in 2024, the company received many valuable projects, but they were far from the company. In order for workers and laborers to be attached to the construction site and speed up the work progress, the company's leaders and the union arranged logistics to accompany the construction site.

Mr. Vu Trung Hieu - Head of the structural team of Hon Gai Vinacomin Mechanical Joint Stock Company - said: "Currently, the company has 3 production teams that eat and sleep near the construction site. The team is working on the conveyor belt project at Hong Thai Tay port, Dong Trieu city, 80km from the company. Therefore, the company has created conditions for the team to rent a fully furnished apartment with a private cook to ensure the health of the team. Next, the company supports bonuses and allowances for being away from home. With the attention of the leaders, we have made efforts to complete the project on schedule. Currently, the team is completing the procedures for project acceptance."

Mr. Nguyen Van Ruc - Chairman of the Trade Union of Hon Gai Mechanical Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin - said that the company has 144 employees. Depending on the working location, the company will arrange accommodation for workers near the workplace, these places have people providing meals for workers. The company fully provides all essential living tools to ensure workers' health.

In such a team of workers who eat, sleep and rest near the construction site, income is always higher than in other positions, of which 30% of workers who live far from home have a monthly income of about 20 million VND/month. Currently, the average income of workers is 11 million VND/month. The company is also researching the construction of comfortable mobile homes to serve workers in the future.

Modernize and mechanize mines for workers

In 2024, Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) has spent more than 2,000 billion VND to implement technology innovation projects, apply automation equipment in underground mines, and improve working conditions for workers.

Typically, at Ha Lam Coal Mine, the introduction of a modern hydraulic support system worth 120 billion VND has significantly reduced time and risks in coal mining. At Nui Beo Coal Mine, a coal conveyor system over 4km long, with an investment of nearly 300 billion VND, has replaced manual transportation, significantly reducing dust and noise...

According to information from the TKV Trade Union, in order to improve the traveling conditions for miners in the mine as well as reduce the labor force for workers, increase productivity, every year the units pay attention to investing in means of transportation in the mine, to help workers minimize the distance they have to walk. To date, the units in the Group have invested in 61 passenger hoists; 602 double-wheeled vehicles; 223 electric trains; 14 monorails and 36 other walking support vehicles.

Improving the working environment not only helps reduce work accidents and increase productivity, but also strengthens the bond between employees and businesses.

With the participation of the government, businesses and trade unions, Quang Ninh in general and the coal industry in particular are gradually affirming their pioneering role in caring for the lives and health of workers, creating a premise for sustainable development.
