Trade unions support tuition fees for studying to improve qualifications
Every Tuesday, Year, and Saturday, after work hours, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hong, a treasurer at Long Truong Secondary School, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, goes to Ho Chi Minh City Marketing University to study a bachelor's program in accounting.
Ms. Hong said that she had previously graduated from an accounting college and was accepted as a treasurer at the school. To improve her qualifications, she registered to study for a bachelor's degree in accounting for 2 years. With an income of more than 6 million VND/month, she had difficulty paying tuition fees. Thanks to the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation's approval, she received a scholarship "Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Scholarship Program" worth 12.25 million VND, equivalent to 70% of the tuition fee per year.
Ms. Hong shared: In the era of constantly innovating knowledge, improving qualifications is very important. Thanks to the scholarship from the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, I have reduced the burden of expenses and feel secure in pursuing a career.
Similarly, Ms. Thanh Xuan (character's name has been changed upon request) an accountant at a private enterprise in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City also received a scholarship worth nearly 16 million VND from the "Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Scholarship Program" to study Business Administration at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.
Ms. Xuan said that more than 10 years ago, she was hired as an accountant thanks to knowing each other. Despite his experience, accounting and business administration knowledge still has many loopholes. Receiving a scholarship from the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation helps her improve her qualifications, be more confident in her work, and not worry about being eliminated.
Strengthening propaganda and mobilization on lifelong learning
Ms. Hong and Ms. Xuan are just typical examples who have received scholarships from the "HCMC Trade Union Scholarship Program" to improve their qualifications and serve their work.
Mr. Phung Thai Quang - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation - said that the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union has implemented many practical programs to support union members and employees to improve their professional qualifications and professional skills, contributing to adapting to the strong development of science and technology, limiting the risk of falling behind and being eliminated in the labor and production process.
A typical example is the "HCMC Trade Union Scholarship" program, launched by the HCMC Labor Federation in 2021, with the goal of promoting the lifelong learning movement among union cadres, union members, and employees, thereby improving the quality of human resources, meeting the requirements of the knowledge economy in the context of the fourth industrial revolution.
From 2022 to 2024, the program has supported 125 cases with a total cost of nearly 810 million VND. In 2025, it is expected to continue to award 28 scholarships, with a total cost of nearly 167 million VND, with the highest support level up to 16 million VND/scholarship, the lowest level being 2.1 million VND/scholarship.
