This is one of the practical and sustainable care programs that Khanh Hoa Provincial Trade Union focuses on in 2024 to aim for the goal of no more union members and workers belonging to poor households.
Welcome spring early in union shelters
Mr. Le Xuan Quoc (born in 1975) is a clerical staff at Huong Duong Kindergarten (Khanh Vinh district). For many years, he has had to live with others. He has rheumatism and is taking care of his elderly mother. After receiving 60 million VND from the Khanh Hoa Provincial Trade Union, Mr. Quoc boldly built a level 4 house with 2 bedrooms, a living room, and a full kitchen on an area of 60 square meters. After more than 2 months of construction, this Tet, he and his elderly mother have a place to gather and celebrate a warm Tet.
For many years, worker Cao Van My and his wife - a member of the Trade Union of Dai Hung Wood Chip Company - lived in a temporary house made of wood and roofed with corrugated iron in Khanh Binh commune. Now, on the land given by his parents, with 60 million VND from the trade union, plus their own funds and a loan from the Trade Union without interest, My and his wife have built a level 4 house with 3 bedrooms, a living room, and a spacious kitchen.
“Tet came early to my wife and I when our house was completed. Now when it rains, our family doesn’t have to worry anymore,” My shared.
Thanks to the 60 million VND the union supported to build a house since August 2024, up to now, Ms. Ca Thi Hanh - Union of Son Thai commune has had a sturdy 2-bedroom level 4 house to welcome Tet.
Encouraged by the grassroots trade union and the superior union's enthusiastic guidance in completing the application for support to build a house, Ms. Hanh boldly borrowed more money to build a 60m2 house on the land her parents gave her. And now, Ms. Hanh's family is preparing to welcome the first Tet in their own beautiful house.
Determination to help union members escape poverty sustainably
Mr. Bui Dang Thanh - Permanent Vice President of Khanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation - said that among the 8 union members handed over on this occasion, all have an average family income of less than 5 million VND/month; 3/8 union members are Raglai ethnic people. All union members do not have houses or their houses are seriously degraded.
Considering the circumstances of union members and the conditions as prescribed, Khanh Hoa Trade Union Charity Fund has allocated a portion of the union members' contributions and mobilized Khanh Hoa Lottery Company Limited to support 60 million VND for each case. This is the initial capital source for union members to have the motivation to join hands to build new houses to stabilize their lives. Of which, Khanh Hoa Lottery Company Limited supported 3 houses.
Up to this point, Khanh Hoa has completed the goal of handing over 50 MACD houses to union members in 2024 and fulfilled the union's commitment to accompany the locality in poverty reduction and eliminating dilapidated thatched houses in 2024.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet - President of Khanh Vinh District Labor Federation - said that upon receiving the documents from union members, both the Union and the District Labor Federation immediately started checking, verifying, and supporting the completion of the request for support.
Since the beginning of the year, 15 members of Khanh Vinh Union have been supported to build and repair MACD houses. These MACD houses not only spread the spirit of enthusiasm and striving to rise up in working to build the family economy but also multiply the opportunity to escape poverty sustainably for many families of union members and workers in mountainous areas such as Khanh Vinh district.
From December 2, the subjects receiving support for building MACD houses in Khanh Hoa province will be adjusted from 5 years to 3 years for union members; the level of support for repairing MACD houses will be adjusted from 25 million VND/house to 30 million VND/house.
