taking wings for dreams to overcome difficulties
Growing up in a poor family in Tam Thanh commune (Phu Ninh district), her stepmother alone raised both Hien and Hau from a small salary as a teacher. However, their passion for Mathematics and the spirit of overcoming difficulties helped them shine in the arena of knowledge.
In early 2025, Hien and Hau excellently won the first prize in the Mathematics in the National Excellent Student Contest and was awarded the prestigious Le Van Thiem Award of the Vietnam Mathematics Association. Not stopping there, during the second international mathematical Olympiad in Turkmenistan in April 2025, the two of them continued to radiate Quang land when they won the gold medal with the highest score in the Vietnamese delegation.
Knowing the circumstances of the two children, the Labor Union (Labor Federation) of Quang Nam province came to the house to congratulate, praise and award the reward promptly. "Their efforts are the pride not only of the family but also for all members and workers of the province. The union will always accompany and support them to firmly step on the path of education," said Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh - Vice Chairman of the provincial Labor Federation.
Nguyen Tri Hau emotionally said: "We are very grateful for the support from teachers, family and the Trade Union organization".
Sharing the debt in times of trouble
The story of the two brothers Tri Hien - Tri Hau is just one of hundreds of cases that have been silently supported by the Quang Nam Trade Union over the past time. Scholarships and small gifts in material aspects but rich in spiritual meaning have supported many students to overcome difficulties and continue to go to school.
At the national excellent student awards ceremony for the 2024 - 2025 school year organized by the Provincial Federation of Labor, 23 students who are children of union members and workers were honored. Of which, there are 2 first prizes, 9 second prizes, and 12 third prizes. Each student received a reward of 1 million VND - although not large in value, but it was a timely recognition and encouragement from the Trade Union organization.
Pham Quan Loc, a 12th grade student majoring in Information Technology at Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted (Tam Ky City), one of the students receiving the union scholarship, shared: My father passed away early, my mother, a worker at Vast Apparel Vietnam Company, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Right when my family was in the most difficult situation, the scholarship from the union helped me become more stable.
Not only students, but also union members' families in special circumstances have received timely attention. The two young children of Ms. Dang Thi Thu Loi (Tam Ky City), the mother of a husband who died of COVID-19, have been given 2 savings books worth 10 million VND/book by the provincial union. This support helps me feel not alone in the incident, Ms. Loi shared.
In the Quang Nam Trade Union system, there is no shortage of union officials dedicated to taking care of children and the future generations of the country. Teacher Nguyen Dung, Chairman of the Trade Union of Le Quy Don Secondary School (Dai Loc District) with nearly 15 years of being involved in the grassroots trade union, always believes: "Protecting the rights and creating learning opportunities for students in special circumstances is an unforgettable responsibility".
The "Three Helps" movement initiated by Mr. Dung - helping to teach on behalf of others, helping to support finances, helping to encourage spirit - has become a support for many teachers raising children in difficult circumstances.
Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial Federation of Labor, Mr. Phan Xuan Quang affirmed: The Trade Union not only accompanies workers but also takes care of their next generations. We clearly identify that caring for and supporting children, especially those in special circumstances, is part of the mission of the Trade Union organization.
