Vocational training opens up an early career path for young people

Trang Trang |

Vocational education is opening up more opportunities for young people to learn a trade, hone skills and soon access the labor market.

Learning goes hand in hand with practice

At a 5-star hotel in Hanoi, Nguyen Quoc Cuong started his internship while studying Hotel Management at Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism. Practical hours and practical experiences help Cuong gradually connect classroom knowledge with work at the business.

After graduating from high school, Cuong worked for 1-2 years to experience and determine his direction. Realizing that the hotel industry was suitable, the male student chose to study at a college because the training time was short and focused on practice.

Cuong spent 3 years completing the program, including 6 months of internship at the enterprise. "Going for an internship early, if I feel suitable, I can completely apply to stay and work at that enterprise" - Cuong said. Vocational training also helps Cuong reduce cost pressure thanks to policies to support tuition fees, meals, create weekend part-time jobs and the opportunity to receive scholarships if I achieve good results.

Creating job opportunities early

Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Master Nguyen Hieu - Vice Rector of Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism - informed that in recent years, the number of students choosing colleges and intermediate schools has increased significantly. This change reflects a positive change in the way students and parents perceive vocational education.

According to Mr. Hieu, the psychology of considering vocational training as the second choice is gradually changing as the quality of training is improved, information about the curriculum, job opportunities and human resource needs is increasingly clear, helping learners proactively choose vocational schools.

Mr. Hieu said that one of the important factors helping vocational schools attract learners is the change in training methods, towards strengthening practice and focusing on practical working ability.

Students after graduation need to have the ability to work well, practice, fight, and have skills and professional ethics" - Mr. Hieu said.

To achieve this goal, the school allocates a large proportion of practice time in the training program, about 50-70% of the study time. Students not only practice at school but are also taken to businesses to access the real working environment.

M.A. Nguyen Hieu assessed that the connection between schools and businesses is important in vocational training. Businesses are not only places to receive students after graduation but also participate in the process of forming vocational skills for learners.

Sharing about this issue, Meritorious Teacher. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Association of Educational Psychology - said that each student has different abilities, interests and conditions, so there needs to be more educational choices for them to find a suitable direction. Accordingly, the development of the vocational education system and policies to support learners are creating more opportunities for students to access vocational training, quickly form skills and participate in the labor market.
