Helping fishermen feel secure going out to sea and sticking to the sea
With a coastline of over 60km, Tra Vinh province has many fishing boats - this is a favorable condition to mobilize and gather workers to form fishing unions and load and unload at fishing ports.
According to the Tra Vinh Provincial Federation of Labor, up to now, 4 fishing unions have been established in Chau Thanh, Duyen Hai districts, Duyen Hai town and Tra Vinh city.
Mr. Tran Quoc Viet - Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh City Labor Federation (Tra Vinh province) said that recently, the unit has coordinated with Long Duc Commune People's Committee to organize propaganda, mobilize ship owners and workers working on fishing boats and establish Long Duc Commune Fishing Union with 34 union members.
“The establishment of the union aims to gather fishermen and fishing workers into the Union. Thereby, it propagates and mobilizes union members to properly implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws. And most importantly, they are cared for and their legitimate rights and interests are protected,” said Mr. Viet.
Mr. Vo Truong Thang - Chairman of Chau Thanh District Labor Union (Tra Vinh Province) informed that in the area, there is Hoa Thuan Commune Fisheries Union with 31 members. In particular, it is to concretize the direction of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU), promoting the development of union members, and establishing fishing unions for units that have not yet established fishing unions.
Many good ways
According to records, recently, Tra Vinh Provincial Trade Unions at all levels have had many good, creative and effective ways to attract and gather workers in the informal sector into the Trade Union organization. Such as establishing unions in the fields of loading and unloading, independent preschool education and nursery groups, handicrafts, kitchen groups, technology motorbike taxis, delivery, craft villages... The establishment of unions not only protects the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members but is also associated with the implementation of patriotic emulation movements in the locality.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan - Chairwoman of the Duc My Commune Mat Weaving and Core Sewing Union (Cang Long District, Tra Vinh Province) - said that the union was established in October 2024 with 42 members. Right from the day the union was established, the union members and workers were presented with 24 union uniforms and 270 student notebooks worth over 12 million VND by the Cang Long District Labor Federation.
Grassroots trade unions gather legal freelance workers in the same industry, profession, by locality or by employer, and are established when there are 5 union members or 5 or more workers who voluntarily apply to join the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. Union members will enjoy all the same benefits as members of a grassroots trade union, be informed and disseminated about legal regulations, protect their legitimate rights and interests, participate in welfare programs, trade union activities and promptly share difficulties so that workers can feel more secure in their work. Mobilizing informal workers to join the trade union and establish a trade union helps strengthen the strength and contribute to improving the position of the trade union in the new situation.
