Vung Ang Economic Zone still lacks housing for workers

TRẦN TUẤN |

In Vung Ang Economic Zone (EZ), Ha Tinh province, there is still a shortage of large-scale housing for workers.

Some businesses guarantee housing for workers

In mid-March 2026, reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper recorded that in Vung Ang Economic Zone, some businesses have built spacious and modern worker housing areas. Typical examples include Formosa Ha Tinh Hung Nghiep Steel Co., Ltd., Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company, Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Co., Ltd....

According to a leader, General Director of Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Co., Ltd., by the end of 2025, along with putting unit No. 1 of Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Plant into operation, the company's worker housing area will be completed with 250 apartments, enough to accommodate all leaders and employees of the company. Including 24 adjacent apartments for leaders and an apartment building for officials and employees.

In each apartment, each apartment building is fully equipped with essential amenities including air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners... to serve the living needs of workers" - shared the leader of Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Co., Ltd.

At the housing area for officials and employees of Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company (the unit managing and operating Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant), a dining hall and a sports playground are also arranged on the premises.

Leaders of Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company said that the housing area for officials and employees of the company includes 5 apartment buildings, each building is 5 floors high, totaling 175 apartments, meeting the housing needs of all officials and employees.

Housing for workers is still lacking

Mr. Nguyen Van Nam - Production Human Resources Director of VinFast Production and Trading Joint Stock Company, Ha Tinh branch - said that currently, the company has more than 7,000 workers working in Vung Ang Economic Zone. However, the company has only rented accommodation for more than 1,000 workers at the worker rental housing area of Ha Tinh Mineral and Trading Corporation (Mitraco). For the remaining 6,000 workers, the company has to hire cars to pick them up and drop them off every day, which is also quite costly.

According to Mr. Nam, from now until the end of 2026, the company needs to recruit about 10,000 more workers. On average, each month, the company will recruit from 700 - 1,000 workers. Thus, the number of workers after recruitment will continue to have to hire cars to pick them up and drop them off, so costs will increase quite a lot in the near future.

We want to rent large-scale housing for workers to easily gather when picking up and dropping off, but in Vung Ang Economic Zone, there are still too few housing areas for workers to rent" - Mr. Nam shared.

In the coming time, along with completing the electric motorbike factory, the company will also build housing for workers to ensure convenience for workers to live, work, and be assured of long-term commitment.

According to an official of the Trade Union Committee of Ha Tinh Economic Zone, the housing issue for workers has recently been invested in modern construction by many businesses in Vung Ang Economic Zone, meeting the needs of workers well.

However, overall, there are still many businesses that have not built or arranged housing for workers. It is hoped that in the coming time, more businesses will focus on investing, building, and ensuring housing for workers so that they can reduce rent costs and have better living and living conditions. From there, workers will be assured to work and stick with the business for a long time.
