Excitedly waiting
At the age of 75, Mr. Nguyen Van Rong (Lien Minh commune, Hanoi City), a wounded soldier who participated in combat in the Southern Battlefield from 1971, still maintains a simple life in his hometown.
In a battle, he was shot and became a wounded soldier. After returning to his hometown, he received monthly wounded soldier allowances from the State and local support.
In the following years, Mr. Rong became attached to the fields and gardens to maintain his life. Up to now, despite his old age, he still maintains the habit of taking care of the gardens around the house.
The monthly allowance of nearly 9 million VND is a stable income source that helps him cover most of the living expenses for both husband and wife. From this amount of money, he also saves a small part to support his children to stabilize their lives and help take care of their grandchildren.
Besides, he still maintains light work in the fields and gardens to have more income and maintain the daily rhythm of life.
Every day, I go to the garden and fields with my wife to plant more to improve my income. Having a light job makes my spirit more comfortable," Mr. Rong shared.
In recent days, Mr. Rong has paid special attention to information about the expected adjustment of pensions and social security allowances. According to the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, from July 1, 2026, pensions and allowances currently enjoyed can be adjusted to increase.
According to the draft decree, the drafting agency proposed 2 adjustment options. With option 1, from July 1, 2026, pensions and monthly allowances may be increased by 4.5% and 200,000 VND/month compared to the benefit level of June 2026. Then continue to increase by 8% for some groups of subjects as prescribed.
In addition, people who are receiving pensions, social insurance allowances or monthly allowances before January 1, 1995, if after adjustment the benefit level is still lower than 3.8 million VND/month, will receive additional support: an increase of 300,000 VND/month for people with a benefit level below 3.5 million VND, or an increase to 3.8 million VND/month for people with a benefit level from 3.5 million VND to under 3.8 million VND.
With option 2, from July 1, 2026, pensions, social insurance allowances and monthly allowances will be adjusted to increase by 8% compared to the level of June 2026. People with low benefit levels before 1995 will also be applied a similar support mechanism to ensure the minimum level.
Reduce the pressure of waiting for children and grandchildren
Like many other elderly people, Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc (Hoang Mai ward, Hanoi City) always closely follows information related to pensions.
Before retiring, Ms. Cuc worked in the Administration - Human Resources department of a metal materials manufacturing company in Hanoi City. In nearly 30 years of work, she has always participated in paying full social insurance according to regulations.
In 2009, she officially retired. Currently, she receives more than 6 million VND in pension each month.
For people who have retired like me, pension is the main source of income. Thanks to a stable amount of money each month, I can take care of basic living expenses myself," Ms. Cuc shared.
However, when major expenses arise such as medical examination and treatment or repairing household items, she still needs the support of her children.
Hearing the news that pensions may be adjusted in the near future, I am also happy. Although the increase is not too large, it also helps life become less stressful and reduces some dependence on children and grandchildren," Ms. Cuc said.
