Mastering new technologies
As one of the long-standing mechanical enterprises of Vietnam's coal - mineral industry, Hon Gai Mechanical Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin is closely associated with the formation and development process of Quang Ninh Mining Region.
In 2024, the company boldly invested and mastered the UHMWPE plastic pipe and roller production technology, becoming the first unit in Vietnam to successfully produce this product on an industrial scale.
UHMWPE plastic pipes and rollers have a weight of only 50% compared to steel, but abrasion resistance is 4 - 7 times higher. With durable, light, and corrosion-resistant properties, the product is especially suitable for transporting coal, minerals, sand, mud, cement... and has now been supplied to many large units in the coal industry and mining industry.
In 2025, Mr. Nguyen Tai Hai (36 years old), a factory worker, and colleagues researched and implemented the initiative "Crafting roller axle processing tools on CNC milling machines".
According to Mr. Hai, the plastic roller production line operates semi-automatically, each time creating lace for the roller axle, workers have to manually operate, which takes a lot of time.
From practical experience, Mr. Hai and his colleagues have designed and manufactured new garments that allow processing to create lace at the same time for many roller axes with different lengths and sizes. Thanks to that, processing time has been significantly shortened, the accuracy and aesthetics of the product have been improved, and productivity has tripled compared to before.
Mr. Nguyen Van Luc - Chairman of the Trade Union of Hon Gai Mechanical Joint Stock Company - said that Mr. Hai's initiative has helped businesses save about 250 million VND per year. The company always values workers' initiatives and creates conditions to immediately put them into practice in production, thereby contributing to reducing costs, improving product competitiveness, and helping to increase income for workers. In 2025, average income reached 13.092 million VND/person/month, equal to 123.7% of the plan.
Growing up from the labor emulation movement
Not only in the mechanical field, from emulation movements for good labor and creative labor, many workers in the coal industry have grown up, becoming typical examples, contributing to spreading the spirit of dedication throughout the industry. Mr. Pham Dinh Duan (born in 1986, from Hung Yen), a worker at Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company - TKV is a typical example.
Joining the Coal industry in 2005, Mr. Duan has been attached to the underground mine for more than 20 years. After many positions, in 2014 he was assigned to be the Head of the Production Team of Mining Workshop 14. Under his leadership, the production team continuously exceeded the plan by 10-15% each year, and for many consecutive years achieved the title "Excellent Labor Team".
Not only good at his profession, Mr. Duan is also a "initiative tree" with more than 10 initiatives applied in the period 2013 - 2025, making a profit of over 600 million VND.
Many initiatives have been recognized at the level of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation and Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, contributing to improving working conditions, improving safety and exploitation efficiency.
With particularly outstanding contributions, on June 4, 2025, Mr. Pham Dinh Duan was awarded the title of Labor Hero.
From the practice at Hon Gai Mechanical Company, Vang Danh Coal Company and many other enterprises, it can be seen that, with the spirit of responsibility, will to overcome difficulties and the aspiration to contribute of workers and laborers, Quang Ninh enterprises are building sustainable endogenous strength.
In 2025, the emulation movement for good labor and creative labor continued to spread deeply throughout the province. Workers, civil servants, and laborers in Quang Ninh have had over 3,000 recognized initiatives and solutions, bringing profit value of over 45 billion VND; 140 emulation projects and products achieved profit value of over 8 billion VND.
These figures affirm the central role of workers in the process of innovation and creativity and also show that the "bounce" of Quang Ninh enterprises originates from the grassroots initiative movement itself.
