A mature leader from the workers' movement
Comrade Nguyen Van Linh was born on July 1, 1915, in a patriotic teacher's family. He was early enlightened by the revolution and joined the Party at the age of 16. In the 1930s, he was one of the outstanding students of President Ho Chi Minh, matured from the workers' movement and trade union activities. With nearly 70 years of experience, regardless of his position, he has always been close to reality, steadfast in the goal of serving the people, especially the working class - the main productive force of the country.
As President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (1978 - 1980), Comrade Nguyen Van Linh directed trade unions at all levels to launch emulation in production, build a material and spiritual life for workers, and fight to protect the legitimate rights of workers. Not only theorists, comrades are people of action - have directly visited factories, enterprises, and industrial parks to meet, listen, and remove difficulties for workers, contributing to the exciting emulation movement in the late 70s.
With a innovative mindset and the spirit of daring to think - daring to do - daring to take responsibility, when holding the position of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (1986 - 1991), comrade Nguyen Van Linh continued to closely direct the innovation of the content and methods of trade union activities.
His clear policy is: The Trade Union must focus on the grassroots, practically caring for union members and workers. The trade union has had flexible activities in methods and diverse activities in content to truly become a reliable support for workers.
Encouraging the spirit of workers in the renovation period
In the early stages of the Doi Moi, the country faces many challenges: Prices fluctuate, state-owned enterprises face difficulties, jobs and workers' income are seriously affected. Comrade Nguyen Van Linh requested that trade unions at all levels "must stand up to protect the right to work safely and the legitimate interests of workers; guide workers to comply with the law and national ethics".
With the spirit of " though the people are close to the people", he always emphasizes the role of union cadres: Must be brave, not commitment, not bureaucracy, not leaving the grassroots. The grassroots leader must be close to the workers, grasp the situation and promptly promote new talents - that advice has remained the motto of action for the union cadres at all levels.
Comrade Nguyen Van Linh is not only a practical leader, but also a profound thinker about the role and position of trade unions in the political system. He said: The Trade Union is an organization within the political system, with an important function of protecting the rights of workers. At the same time, trade unions must harmoniously combine benefits, unify benefits with obligations.
These viewpoints are still the guideline for trade union activities in the context of international integration, when the three-party labor relationship model (Union - Employer - State) increasingly requires professionalism, transparency and efficiency.
In today's era, when the world of jobs is changing rapidly, the labor market is differentiated, young workers have new thinking and needs - then Comrade Nguyen Van Linh's idea of an attractive, practical, effective, and courageous Trade Union organization, because workers still retain their current value.
Comrade Nguyen Van Linh's exemplary revolutionary life is an ideal model for the current and future generations of trade union cadres. That communist soldier left a legacy not only for the country's Doi Moi, but also for the Union's Doi Moi - where workers are protected, promoted, and accompanied to achieve happiness and justice in modern society.
At the seminar "General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh and What needs to be done immediately" held in April 2023, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang emphasized: "Comrade Nguyen Van Linh is an outstanding leader of the workers' movement, the one who laid the foundation for innovating the content and methods of operation of the Trade Union organization".
According to President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, as President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Comrade Nguyen Van Linh always expressed the viewpoint of needing to look straight at the truth, tell the truth, properly assess the current situation, propose practical tasks and solutions, specifically build, care for and promote the role of the working class and trade union organizations in building the country.
