Advantages and disadvantages of using part-time personnel
Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc is the owner of a company that both sells and supplies Japanese consumer goods and has a Japanese restaurant system in Hanoi.
Mr. Ngoc's company's personnel are divided into 2 main groups: Office group (ad administrative, accounting) is responsible for operating the consumer goods supply and raw material supply for the restaurant system itself; restaurant operation group.
Mr. Ngoc said that for the office block, the rate of part-time personnel is about 15%, the salary for interns and apprentices is about 3 million VND/month.
The restaurant and part-time staff operation sector accounts for about 20%. Of which, the company's first restaurant has 96 employees, part-time 22 employees, accounting for 23%; secondary restaurant has 62 employees, part-time 9 employees, accounting for 15%.
We accept this part-time personnel ratio and determine that this block has regular rotation/entry/admission. Because it is proactive, it will not affect the operation of the restaurant system. Currently, the company pays part-time workers in the restaurant group about 25,000 VND/hour.
The students who are hired have time for training and re-evaluation for 3 days. Workers in this group are also proactively registered to work according to the restaurant's regulated hours: Morning shift: 10-14am, afternoon shift: 17-22pm," said Mr. Ngoc.
According to Mr. Ngoc, the use of part-time personnel has both advantages and disadvantages. In terms of advantages, human resources need to work part-time and are easy to recruit. The biggest disadvantage is that the working time of part-time personnel registered depends largely on the school schedule (90% of part-time personnel are students) at school.
Also accepting up to 20% of the part-time personnel ratio, Mr. Tran Van An - Director of a company specializing in imported porcelain - said that after nearly 16 years of operation, his company has had more than ten years of part-time personnel.
"I even chose the right part-time personnel, trained, accompanied, and waited for them to graduate before being officially hired. Some of you have now become the head of the sales department.
In some stages, companies that require 100% of professional and experienced employees to be sales and business staff are a bit unlikely. We open up opportunities for businesses to recruit people and opportunities for young workers to try their hand, said Mr. An.
Job opportunities for young people
Mr. Nguyen Hung Dung is currently the head of sales department of a company specializing in Ngoc Linh ginseng and products from sedge.
Mr. Dung started working at the company as a part-time employee. At that time, he was an employee of a company specializing in the trading of Fine Arts stone.
I have worked for half a year and sales are always in the top, the director met directly and suggested that I stop working at my old company and officially become a full-time employee. I considered and decided to work at my current company from December 2023. From a sales staff position, I am now the head of the business group of 6 provinces in the Red River Delta, said Mr. Dung.

Not only for experienced workers, part-time jobs are truly a valuable job opportunity for many students and young workers. Job groups such as fashion sales, cosmetics, restaurant service, bookstore staff... have helped many students earn more income, cover their current living expenses and accumulate experience for the future.
In the third year, I applied to work as a part-time employee for a bookstore on Tran Phu Street (Ha Dong, Hanoi). After graduating, I submitted my application and was accepted as an official employee. I am currently the deputy head of the inventory department, with a salary of more than 13 million VND/month.
Working since college with an income of about 2.7 million VND/month has helped me become more stable and resilient; have expenses to cover my living away from home and support my parents, said Ms. Tran Thi Huyen Trang, a former student of the National Academy of Public Administration.
