Meaningful gifts during Workers' Month
This May, the Trade Union Shelter of Ms. Le Thi Huong (born in 1972, a worker at Tohoku Pioneer Company Limited) will be completed and put into use. More than anyone else, Ms. Huong is eagerly waiting.
Ms. Huong is one of the workers in difficult circumstances at the OEM speakers manufacturing department, Tohuku Pioneer Co., Ltd. After the breakdown of her marriage, Ms. Huong raised her daughter alone, the mother and child live in a seriously degraded level 4 house with cracked walls and leaks every rainy season. Ms. Huong herself has kidney disease, has to take medicine every month, and treatment costs a lot of money.
Sharing the difficulties of Ms. Huong and her children, the Tohoku Pioneer Company Limited Trade Union proposed that the Economic Zone Trade Union support the construction of a new Trade Union Shelter for Ms. Huong. At the launching ceremony of Workers' Month 2025, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union presented 50 million VND to support the construction of a Trade Union Shelter.
"Receiving gifts from the Trade Union organization on the occasion of Workers' Month is extremely meaningful to me. I hope that many workers in difficult circumstances will be supported by the City Labor Union, so that workers have more motivation, confidence, and rise up in life," Ms. Huong said emotionally.
Mr. Dong Van Viet (born in 1981, worker in Setto Department, Wayne Vietnam Co., Ltd.) is one of the workers who received funding to build a Trade Union Shelter in Workers' Month 2025.
His family used to live in a dilapidated level 4 house in Hai Ninh village, Kim Tan commune, Kim Thanh district (Hai Duong). His wife has postpartum complications and is unable to work; he himself has a hunchback problem but is still the main pillar with an income of more than 6 million VND/month.
The dream of having a spacious house that was once distant for him is now gradually becoming a reality thanks to the support of the Hai Phong City Labor Union at all levels. His family's new 80m2 house is gradually being completed.
Spreading the activities of the Trade Union Shelter Fund
According to statistics from the Department of Legal Policy and Labor Relations of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the City Labor Federation has supported the construction of 12 Trade Union Shelters, of which 8 were newly built with a budget of 400 million VND, 4 were repaired with a total cost of 120 million VND.
According to Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc, Permanent Vice President of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, over the years, the City Trade Union Shelter Fund has promptly supported union members and workers with difficult housing circumstances, on average each year 60-80 union members have been supported to build new and repair houses. In 2025, the City Labor Federation strives to support the construction and repair of at least 130 Trade Union Shelters for workers and civil servants, of which 100 are for workers and employees in Hai Phong City.
Along with that, at least 3,000 union members in difficult circumstances will be subsidized from the Trade Union Shelter Fund. In the 2025 Workers' Month alone, 30 union members in difficult circumstances and in need of housing will be supported by the City Labor Federation with funding to build and repair Trade Union Shelters (an increase of 5 houses compared to the 2024 Workers' Month).
"The city's Trade Unions at all levels hope that, through timely sharing and encouragement from the Trade Union Shelter Fund, union members' lives will be less difficult and arduous, and they will soon settle down and stabilize their lives. At the same time, I hope that the Fund's activities will be increasingly spread, receiving the attention and support of businesses, union members, and employees to help more union members in difficult circumstances," said Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc.
