Union member Nguyen Van Minh (YBB Calcium Carbonate Joint Venture Company) is in difficult circumstances and suffered damage to his house after the recent storm No. 3. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Trade Union and his relatives (including 40 million VND from the Trade Union Social Fund of the Yen Bai Provincial Labor Federation), Mr. Minh was able to rebuild his solid house before the Lunar New Year of At Ty.
“From the initial support from the Trade Union Social Fund, my family also received a lot of help from the government and charitable organizations. Just a few months ago, my family had to stay at someone else's house, but now we have a nice house, my wife, children and I are very excited," Minh said.
Similarly, teacher Nong Viet Quynh (a union member of Hong Thai Primary School, Yen Bai City) has a difficult housing situation. Her husband died early, she is raising two small children alone and has to rent a house. In response to the difficult situation of the union members, the school's Union Executive Committee requested the higher-level union to support funding to build a Union Shelter.
The house was built on an area of 120m2, level 4 house, roofed with corrugated iron, and completed after 5 months with a total cost of about 350 million VND. Of which, Yen Bai Provincial Labor Federation supported 40 million VND; officials, teachers, and career staff of Yen Bai City Department of Education and Training supported 35 million VND, the remaining funding was supported by family and relatives.
According to statistics from the Yen Bai Provincial Federation of Labor, in 2024, trade unions at all levels promoted and mobilized the establishment of a "Trade Union Social Fund" with an amount of 1.5 billion VND. From the Trade Union Social Fund, the cost of building "Trade Union Shelter" houses for 17 union member families was supported with an amount of 705 million VND.
In addition, the Trade Union Social Fund also provided emergency hardship allowances to 163 union members, amounting to 218.5 million VND; presented gifts to 500 union members in difficult circumstances on the occasion of Workers' Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health, amounting to 150 million VND; supported 94 12th grade students in difficult circumstances to take the 2024 high school graduation exam, amounting to 18.8 million VND; presented 120 gifts to children of workers, civil servants, and laborers in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the opening of the 2024-2025 school year, amounting to 24 million VND...
Mr. Nguyen Chuong Phat - Chairman of the Yen Bai Provincial Labor Federation - said that since the Trade Union Social Fund was launched by trade unions at all levels, it has attracted a large number of union officials, union members, workers, employees, philanthropists, and businesses to actively respond. This is a major policy of humane nature, meeting the legitimate aspirations of workers, employees, and laborers in difficult circumstances who have the conditions to repair or build new houses.
“With the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, mutual assistance, and helping each other so that no one is left behind, trade unions at all levels in Yen Bai have implemented many practical activities for union members to encourage, share, and help them feel secure in their work and celebrate the traditional Tet holiday warmly and happily,” said Mr. Nguyen Chuong Phat, Chairman of the Yen Bai Provincial Labor Federation.
