Grandparents take their children to school on behalf of parents
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, has been a worker in Thach That - Quoc Oai Industrial Park for 11 years. Ms. Hang's husband works as a worker for a contractor. The couple rented a small house in Bung village (Thach That).
Due to the cramped rental housing conditions and the couple's working hours are sometimes day and sometimes night according to the cycle, the couple sent their two sons this year to grade 2 and grade 3 for their grandparents in their hometown of Ba Vi to raise. The couple's income is around 20 million/month. Every month, the couple sends money back to their grandparents to take care of their children.
In the new school year, she will buy all the books and uniforms as required by the school. Ms. Hang's grandmother is also the one who teaches her children every day. The house in Ba Vi, which was thought to be close but turned far away because it was calculated to work by day shift or night shift, on average, Ms. Hang and her husband returned to their hometown once every 11 days, but that time was very rare to have a full day. "Therefore, whether my child is opinionated or has a poor score, I can't bear to scold him because I feel sorry for them and have to live away from his parents since he was little" - Ms. Hang said.
Many times when I get home, see my children, let them go to the children's swimming pool near their home or hang around, I'm out of time. Everything from taking care of children to teaching them depends on their grandparents, mainly the grandmother who is 60 years old this year. She is even more strict than her parents, so the children are good and have average learning ability. This new school year, Ms. Hang also asked her grandmother to order all the books and school uniforms. Balo bought it from school last year, but this year it is not damaged so the children can still use it.
The need to earn money to take care of life has caused Ms. Hang and her husband to not only have limited time for their children but also not have it for themselves. When working at night, Ms. Hang only sleeps to regain her strength. On the contrary, working day and night at night makes me crave to sleep even more when I return to my rented room.
People may not believe it, but after 11 years of working in Thach That, Ms. Hang has never been to Hanoi... On the opening day of this year, she also missed her children, and also wanted to take her two children to school, but because of work, she asked her back like in the previous years since her child entered grade 1.
Supported on the day of taking children to school
To support, share difficulties with workers and accompany their children to school, many units have taken practical actions. Ms. Phung Thi Hanh - bear sewing department ( Garment Corporation 10) said that their July salary is increased by 22,5% of the employee's support for the day-to-day children are taken to school. Ms. Hanh has worked here for 15 years. Her husband is a railway worker. The couple's income is less than 20 million/month, so all expenses must be very sparing to cover the couple and 3 children of school age.
One of her 3 children this year is in 8th grade, the other is in 6th grade and the other is in 2nd grade. Luckily, the school was about 1km from home, so the two older children went to school by themselves, the father or mother took the child to school, and in the afternoon, the two older brothers took turns picking him up.
Every time the new school year comes, Ms. Hanh and her husband have to collect a lot of money to buy books and uniforms for their children. Therefore, 22% of her July salary is a very valuable amount, helping her to partly take care of her children in the new school year. Households with the means buy new packs of books for their children every year. But for a house without surplus like Ms. Hanh and her husband, they only buy a new one when the pair of books are broken. This year, before the new school year, the pair of books of the two older children are no longer usable, so the couple decided to buy them a new one for their children. The baby's pair is not broken yet so it can still be used...
