Returning to her hometown in Minh Quang commune (Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province) after taking the "Union Train - Spring 2025", Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu (49 years old, worker of TKG Taekwang Vina Joint Stock Company, Bien Hoa Industrial Park 2) happily gathered with her family.
Ms. Thu got married near her home, but due to family circumstances, more than 10 years ago, she and her husband and children moved to Bien Hoa City to start a business and live.
Both Thu and her husband are workers, and the family's finances are still difficult, so for 4 years they have not had the opportunity to return home to celebrate Tet with their relatives.
"This year, about 3 months before Tet, I looked up prices for transportation to go back to my hometown. My family of three returned, the total round-trip ticket cost was about 15 million VND. This is quite a large amount for a worker like me, so my family temporarily put it aside to return next year.
However, in November, I received a notice from the company's union about the "Union Train" to support union members and workers to return home for Tet, organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL). I registered and was lucky to be able to return home with my family on that loving train, so today, I can sit here with my elderly parents," Ms. Thu confided.
Sitting and talking with us, Ms. Thu could not hide her tears of happiness, seeing her healthy elderly parents reunited with their children and grandchildren.
Ms. Thu recounted the moment she boarded the "Union Train" to return home: "Boarding the train, all of us workers were surprised by the quality and service. The train compartment was spacious, airy and the seats were comfortable, beyond our initial imagination. More special than anything, the train we took brought joy and sharing from children far from home and also the encouragement and thoughtful visits of Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Phan Van Anh. In addition to supporting train tickets to return home, the union also gave Tet gifts to union members and workers; and lucky money to members on the train."
Seeing her daughter's family returning home after 4 years away from home to celebrate Tet, Ms. Dang Thi Mui (71 years old, Thu's mother) was moved: "Since the day my daughter informed me that the union supported her to take the train home for Tet, every day I have been looking forward to it, waiting for her family to come back. At my old age and infirmity, I only wish for Tet to be with my children and grandchildren, that's the happiest thing for me. It's been a long time since my husband and I have been able to celebrate Tet with our children and grandchildren like this."
Thanks to the "Union Train", workers far from home like Ms. Thu were able to return home to celebrate Tet with their relatives. Through this, the union organization demonstrates the sharing, connection and companionship with union members and workers far from home.
