Shortening the time for paying unemployment benefits

From January 1, 2026, the 2025 Law on Employment will officially take effect with many important adjustments related to the unemployment allowance regime.

The 2025 Law on Employment takes effect from January 1, 2026. Regarding the unemployment benefit period, the law still maintains the calculation method. Accordingly, employees who have paid unemployment insurance for 12 months to less than 36 months will receive 3 months of unemployment benefits. After that, for every 12 months of additional contributions, an additional month of unemployment benefits will be added. The maximum period of enjoyment is 12 months.

However, a notable change is the shortening of the unemployment benefit payment period. According to Clause 3, Article 39 of the 2025 Law on Employment, employees will start receiving allowances from the 11th working day from the date of submitting a complete application, instead of having to wait until the 16th as currently prescribed.

Shortening the 5-day waiting period not only increases the timeliness of support, but also has great significance in terms of social security, especially for workers who do not have savings or suddenly lose revenue.

Thus, the 2025 Employment Law shortening waiting time for payment demonstrates a humane spirit, contributing to helping workers stabilize their lives faster in the new job search period. In the context of the constantly fluctuating labor market, this adjustment demonstrates the efforts of the legislative body in perfecting the social security system.
