Initiative to help combat waste and reduce dust pollution at businesses in Lao Cai

Thanh Ba |

Thousands of initiatives of workers and laborers in the highlands of Lao Cai have contributed to improving productivity, improving the working environment and bringing benefits to businesses of tens of billions of VND.

Creativity from production reality

Attached to Hoang Lien Son Technical Porcelain Joint Stock Company (Lao Cai) for nearly 20 years, Ms. Do Thi Anh Hong understands each stage, from which she constantly researches and improves.

Recently, the initiative to create a ceramic enamel support for supporting wires researched and applied by her has brought clear results. Previously, the enamel coating stage was mainly carried out on a simple, narrow operating table, with excess enamel falling onto the floor causing waste and affecting production progress.

Seeing the yeast flowing down the floor is both wasteful and time-consuming, I thought about how to keep this yeast part" - Ms. Hong shared.

From that thought, the new support model was born. Not only helping to recover excess enamel for reuse, the initiative also helps to operate more conveniently, reduce interruption time, and improve productivity and quality of insulated porcelain products.

At Hoang Lien Son Technical Porcelain Joint Stock Company, where there are more than 200 employees, initiatives like Ms. Hong's are not isolated. On average, each year, the enterprise has about 10 initiatives applied in practice, directly contributing to improving production efficiency.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nai - Director of the Production Enterprise - said: "In 2025, the company recorded 7 initiatives and useful solutions recognized at the grassroots level, with a total reward value of up to 845 million VND. This is a very encouraging figure, showing that employees not only work but also truly accompany the business.

Spreading the movement, arousing creative spirit

Not only in large factories, the spirit of innovation is spreading deeply in many businesses and grassroots trade union organizations.

At Son Ha Perfume and Spice Co., Ltd. (Lao Cai Branch), Mr. Doan Trong Hieu - Head of Improvement Department - has improved the automatic cinnamon pipeline, both improving productivity, reducing dust, and improving working conditions.

Previously, each cinnamon tray took about 46 seconds to process, now it has been reduced to 26 seconds. More importantly, workers no longer have to directly come into contact with cinnamon dust as before," Mr. Hieu said.

The integrated automatic vacuum system after improvement helps collect all generated dust, contributing to ensuring a safer working environment for workers.

According to statistics from the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation, the whole province currently manages more than 41,000 union members. To promote the creative movement, many emulation programs have been synchronously implemented such as "Good Labor, Creative Labor", "2 thousand initiatives" or "1 million initiatives".

In the period 2021 - 2026, the whole province has had more than 3,000 recognized initiatives, nearly 400 solutions participating in the Technical Innovation Contest, 1,500 projects and products, bringing benefits of nearly 21 billion VND.

Mr. Phan Huy Cuong - Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation - said: "We set a target that each year, each grassroots trade union has at least one initiative, of which over 50% is applied in practice. By 2030, the whole province strives to have 2,000 recognized initiatives and many topics reach the level of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor".

Towards Workers' Month 2026, Lao Cai promotes emulation to link tasks of each unit; each union member is encouraged to have at least one practical initiative.
