Labor safety is a daily responsibility
In the noise of the end-of- shift drilling machine at K11 Mining workshops, Uong Bi Coal Company - TKV, Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, ATVSV, still regularly checked each optical point. After nearly 10 years of working in occupational safety and hygiene, he clearly understands: Just one minute of being subjective can cost him his life. For him, safety is not a slogan but an action, a daily responsibility.
Mr. Linh is one of thousands of employees working silently at enterprises, workshops, and workshops in the province. They are not only supervisors, but also propagandists, those who " handle the work" for new workers, and are the bridge between workers and leaders in ensuring safety.
At Uong Bi Coal Company - TKV, where there are more than 4,800 officers and employees, occupational safety and health work is always a top priority. The company maintains 522 ATVSV, arranged to each production team. The occupational safety and health workers not only monitor the process and remind workers, but also proactively detect safety risks through internal Zalo groups, promptly reflecting in production orders. Thanks to that, information is processed quickly and effectively, ensuring safe production progress.
The K11 workshop - where Mr. Linh works - has not had any work accidents for many consecutive years, and has just won the second prize for the whole team at the 2025 Company-level Excellent Safety and Health Competition. At the scale of the Group, Uong Bi Coal also excellently won the first prize for the whole delegation at the 13th TKV Excellent Safety and Hygiene Competition, affirming the capacity and sense of responsibility of the Safety and Hygiene team.
Be active in spreading safety skills
Along with practical activities at the grassroots level, movements and competitions for excellent occupational safety and health also contribute to spreading awareness and safety skills. In 2025, the TKV Excellent Sports and Physical Training Competition will be held in the form of a vibrant game show, attracting 111 contestants from 32 units, creating a useful playground for sports and physical training to exchange, practice and share experiences.
Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) currently has more than 12,300 employees on duty at 454 networks, well-trained and receiving allowances from 50,000 - 500,000 VND/month depending on location.
In just the first 6 months of 2025, TKV units have spent more than VND870 billion on occupational safety and health, reaching 53.6% of the annual plan. Many priority items include improving working conditions, training in response skills, protective equipment, and investing in automatic safety equipment.
In addition to financial resources, more important thing is the change of awareness: ATVSV is not only a person who "monitored the process" but became a leader of a safety culture in the production team and team.
Each year, occupational safety and health workers proactively detect and recommend handling of more than 800 errors or unsafe risks, helping to effectively prevent occupational accidents. At many units, Zalo groups for quick reflection were established, helping ATVSV report the situation on the same day. This method helps shorten processing time, reduce risks and improve proactiveness in incident prevention.
In the context of modern production, the occupational safety and hygiene service not only "assign colleagues to wear hats and lights" but also accompanies in technical improvements and digitalization of safety work. At many coal mines, the mine's safety equipment is equipped with gas sensors, risk management software, and real-time data updates.
There are no effective regulations or technologies if workers lack self-defense awareness. And it is the occupational safety and health network that is an important link to form that awareness.
According to statistics from the Quang Ninh Provincial Federation of Labor, there are currently 571 affiliated trade unions establishing a VIA network, with 6,234 VIAs operating regularly. In specific industries such as coal mining, mechanical engineering, cement, electricity, the coverage rate of occupational safety and health has reached nearly 100% in production teams and teams.
Mr. Ha Ngoc Hieu - Safety and hygiene of the 14th Support Team, Coal Selection Workshop 3, Cua Ong Coal Selection Company - said: "Ensuring the safety of colleagues during a production shift is not only a task, but a mission, a responsibility of each occupational safety and health worker. I always consider propaganda work as the most important task. Because when each colleague recognizes the risk of insecurity and knows how to protect themselves and their teammates, that is the greatest success for those working in occupational safety and hygiene.
From the dedication of thousands of VNDV, coal mines and factories in Quang Ninh not only maintain a stable production rhythm but also spread the humanistic value: Safety is the command of the heart - the culture of miners.
