Students choose to work on holidays because income increases

Many students and young workers working as bartenders and waiters at coffee shops are willing to go to work on National Day because their income may increase by 50% compared to normal days.

Tran Thi Nhat Huyen (Nghe An), born in 2006, is currently a 3rd year student of Journalism, College of Television.

Since enrolling, Huyen has determined to work extra to help her parents, and at the same time accumulate more communication experience - a skill that this student considers very important for her career in the future.

Currently, Huyen works as a bartender for a coffee shop on Nguyen Du street (Thuong Tin commune, Hanoi). Huyen said that during the September 2nd National Day holiday, she will not return to her hometown but register to work an extra 8-10 hours/day.

During the holidays, the number of customers coming to the shop is very large, I will receive a salary increase according to the regulations on working extra on holidays of the shop, expected to increase by 50%. The additional amount during the holidays is very valuable to me, I will use it to pay for electricity, buy food, and personal belongings. Currently, I pay 2.5 million VND/semester for the dormitory fee, and divide the electricity bill into about 200,000 VND per month," Huyen said.

Regarding the overtime schedule and holiday income, Nhat Huyen said that depending on the number of registered shifts, she registered to work almost full shifts.

The number of customers will increase sharply in the evening, but during the day, customers will also be more crowded than usual. Having 5 days off, I registered to work almost full-time. I want to take advantage of the holiday time to earn extra income. At the end of working hours (20:30), I can still go out or spend time with friends," Huyen said.

Meanwhile, Vu Ha My Anh is currently working for a coffee shop in Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward (Hanoi): "This 9th National Day holiday, instead of going home or traveling, I decided to stay in Hanoi to work part-time.

My Anh's job at the shop is mixing and being in charge of hygiene and cleaning. My Anh's each shift lasts about 5 hours, and her normal daily salary ranges from 22,000-23,000 VND/hour.

My Anh said that this is not the first time she has chosen to register to work during holidays. After many years of working part-time on holidays, My Anh realizes that the hardest part of holiday work is when orders are piled up when there are too many customers coming in at the same time. At such times, all the staff in the shop have to struggle continuously, running at full capacity.

This September 2nd National Day, I plan to work throughout the 5 holidays, corresponding to 5 shifts at the shop. In return for the hardship, my income in these days is expected to be double, even triple compared to normal days," My Anh shared.

The money saved from this holiday, My Anh will completely spend on personal expenses, buying some favorite items.

I choose to go to work instead of going out because I want to take advantage of this time as an opportunity to earn extra income and gain more experience, train myself and accumulate more practical life experiences," My Anh said.
