The attraction of the handicraft workshop model

Many DIY workshops (making products by hand) are becoming a popular choice for many young people, both helping to relax and creating personal experiences.

Entertainment with handicrafts

Not repeating activities such as going for coffee, watching movies or gathering with friends, many young people are starting to look for new forms of entertainment. DIY workshops (workshops, discussions or practices of exchanging knowledge and skills on a specific topic) with activities such as pottery making, painting, baking... are gradually becoming a favorite of many people.

Relaxing after working hours at the company, Ms. Tran Ngoc Khanh Linh (23 years old, O Dien commune, Hanoi) said that she regularly participates in workshops as a way to refresh daily entertainment activities. According to Ms. Linh, the attractive point of this model is that it both helps her relax after working hours and increases her connection with friends.

On weekends, when I have free time, I will register to participate in a workshop with friends. Making products myself makes me feel quite interesting, I can explore my abilities that I have never thought of before," Ms. Khanh Linh said.

On average, Ms. Khanh Linh participates in 1-2 workshops each month, each time she usually pays from 150,000-300,000 VND, especially for activities such as pottery making, the cost can be up to 400,000 VND/session. For Ms. Linh, this cost is commensurate with the experience received, from the service quality of the staff to the finished products brought home.

Choosing workshops as a form of entertainment, Ms. Pham Thi Oanh (24 years old, Lang ward, Hanoi) said that she often participates in handicraft activities to relax and rebalance her rhythm of life.

After working hours, I want to find a lighter activity. Making a product myself helps me focus more, feel more comfortable and reduce pressure. I can try things I have never done before such as painting, making candles...

Flexible market, meeting diverse needs

Not only attracting young people, in order to meet the increasingly diverse needs, DIY workshops in Hanoi aim to expand to more participants. Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang (22 years old, Ngoc Ha ward, Hanoi) - manager at 96 Ceramics (manual ceramic workshop) said that the participants in the workshop are quite diverse, from children to middle-aged people.

Ms. Giang said: "Although there are many customer groups, our main target audience is young people. They have a need to find new forms of entertainment instead of going out to eat or watch movies. In addition, when coming here, they also want to learn more about the process of producing handicrafts such as how to make ceramics, how to mix colors...".

According to Ms. Huong Giang, workshop activities at the store have flexible prices. With pottery painting activities on available products, the price ranges from 9,000-300,000 VND depending on the size of the product. Larger products such as bowls, vases can cost up to 380,000 VND. Meanwhile, pottery packages usually cost from 260,000-380,000 VND.

Besides flexible prices, the number of customers participating in workshops is also maintained at a stable level. On peak days, each session can welcome about 40–60 customers, distributed according to each time frame to ensure experience for each customer. In addition, to attract and retain customers, Ms. Giang believes that it is necessary to focus on professional training and soft skills for employees, product quality and accompanying services such as photography, and the development of experience spaces.

The development of DIY workshops shows an increasingly clear demand, not only for young people but also expanding to many age groups. Instead of just using the service, participants tend to want to directly participate in the product creation process, bearing their own mark.

With flexible prices, diverse forms and high interactivity, DIY workshops are gradually becoming a familiar choice in entertainment life. Not only helping participants relax, these activities also contribute to meeting personal development needs, discovering many new skills and experiences.
