Data security in Vietnam in recent years has faced increasing risks, complex and noteworthy developments. According to a report by the National Cyber Security Association, in 2025, information systems in Vietnam faced about 552,000 cyber attacks.
Attacks are increasingly targeted and focused on stealing valuable data rather than just disrupting the system. Cybersecurity experts also noted a shift from widespread attacks to targeted attacks (APT), ransomware and data theft, in which personal data and corporate customer data become the main targets of hackers.
In addition, the illegal exploitation and use of customer data is also becoming a worrying issue. The damage caused by online fraud related to personal data exploitation in Vietnam in 2025 is estimated at more than 6,000 billion VND, showing the serious consequences of user data leakage and abuse.
The Law on Protection of Personal Data takes effect from January 1, 2026, and the recent submission by the Ministry of Public Security to the Government of a draft Decree stipulating penalties for administrative violations in the field of network security and personal data protection is creating an important step in completing the legal corridor; towards effective sanctions to strengthen data protection in the context of increasingly existing cyberspace risks.
On the afternoon of April 23, Lao Dong Newspaper organized a seminar "Implementing data protection regulations, creating a safe and transparent digital environment", with the participation of guests:
- Senior Colonel, Dr. Dao Trung Hieu, member of the National Cyber Security Association, criminology expert
