Ms. Pham Thi Nhung (Ninh Binh) - a garment worker said that on this occasion, orders must be shipped before the 23rd of Tet, so the group of workers must try their best to complete them.
“Every day we are asked to work overtime for another 1.5 hours, occasionally staying for another half hour to support other departments. We leave the garment factory at 6:30 PM, and get home at 7 PM in the really cold and tiring winter weather,” Ms. Nhung said.
Ms. Nhung revealed that the overtime fee is 20,000 VND/hour, and the company gives an additional bonus of 500,000 VND/month. With these regimes, female workers also reduce some fatigue and feel more secure about their income.

According to Ms. Nhung, when working overtime, in addition to increased output, income from overtime also reaches more than 1 million VND/month. This amount is enough for the female worker to pay for 1 month's tuition for her 5-year-old child.
Ms. Nhung said that the Tet holiday schedule is also extended until the 27th, which is later than many other companies in the area. However, Ms. Nhung and the workers told themselves that they would work their best to get through Tet to be less vất vả.
After Tet, if there are no urgent orders to export, we will be "relaxed", doing it gently" - Ms. Nhung shared.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu (Ninh Binh), a leather shoe worker, shared that after the childcare regime ended, she returned to normal working hours. Every day she works overtime for 1.5 hours, and her children have to be looked after by grandparents at home.
I only get to go home at 6:30 PM, my husband is working far away, so the children have to be picked up and fed by both paternal and maternal grandparents first. For me, overtime is an opportunity to work to have more money to buy milk, pay tuition fees as well as feel secure in shopping for Tet" - Ms. Thu said.
According to the female worker, the company is working overtime regularly, there are 1-2 months in the middle of the year with little work that does not require overtime. Near Tet, overtime is only 1.5 hours, the highest time of overtime is up to 2.5 hours per day.
Ms. Thu's current basic salary is 5.2 million VND, each day of overtime is supplemented with a meal, total income is nearly 80,000 VND. Thus, when working full month, female workers will receive more than 2 million VND in overtime money.
If she doesn't work overtime, according to Ms. Thu, her monthly income is only enough to support her children's daily living and study.
Not working overtime, only working 8 hours/day, plus all allowances, I get about 7 million VND/month. This amount is only enough to cover living expenses for 3 mothers and children and tuition fees for 2 older children. Other expenses arising or future plans all have to depend on my husband's income" - Ms. Thu said.
