On the afternoon of September 14, at the headquarters of the Hanoi Labor Federation, a friendly cooperation talks took place between the Hanoi Labor Federation and the Vientiane Capital Trade Union Federation (Laos).

Strengthening friendship between Capital Trade Unions of the two countries

Speaking at the talks, Member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Chairman of the Hanoi Labor Federation Nguyen Van Thang emphasized that this is a precious opportunity for trade union leaders of the two Capitals to meet, exchange views on issues of common concern, and share experiences in trade union organization and activities.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, the cooperative relationship between the Hanoi Labor Federation and the Vientiane Capital Trade Union Union was established in 1995. Over 30 years, that relationship has been increasingly consolidated and developed, becoming one of the meaningful cooperative activities in people-to-people diplomacy between the two Capitals.

Every year, the two sides maintain delegation exchanges, visits, and working sessions, thereby strengthening understanding and sharing experiences in trade union activities in the context of socio-economic changes, increasingly diverse labor relations and increasingly high requirements for the Trade Union organization.

In particular, from 2009 to now, periodically every 2 years, the Hanoi Labor Federation in coordination with the University of Trade Unions organizes theoretical and professional training classes on Trade Union work for key officials of the Capital Trade Union Federation of Vientiane, Vientiane province and Luang Prabang province.

The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperative relations between the Hanoi Labor Federation and the Vientiane Capital Trade Union Federation for the period 2022-2027.

Sharing experiences from practical trade union activities

At the talks, Chairman of the Vietnam Capital Trade Union Federation Khotamine Phongyalac informed about the socio-economic situation of the Capital Vientiane, and shared some highlights about the organization and activities of the Trade Union in the past time.

Sharing about issues of mutual concern, representatives of the Vientiane Capital Trade Union Federation wished to continue to receive support and exchange experiences from the Hanoi Labor Federation, especially in the work of developing union members, building trade union organizations, training officials and activities to care for and protect workers.

The Vientiane Trade Union also proposed that the two sides study and build a new Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation after the Memorandum of Understanding for the 2022-2027 period ends; and at the same time invite a delegation of Hanoi Labor Federation officials to visit, work and exchange experiences in Laos in the coming time.

In the new conditions, the Hanoi Trade Union focuses on core tasks: representing, caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of workers; improving the quality of dialogue, negotiation and collective labor agreements; consulting and legal support to help workers understand and fully exercise their rights and obligations in labor relations.

Along with that, the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions is identified as a key task.

Notably, the Hanoi Labor Federation is promoting the emulation movement "Good Labor, High Productivity, Good Income", thereby arousing the spirit of creativity and responsibility of workers, civil servants, and laborers, contributing to the goal of improving labor productivity and growth quality of the Capital.

Within the framework of the talks, the Trade Unions of the two Capitals spent time exchanging and sharing experiences on solidarity, gathering and developing union members; organizational structure; trade union financial work; methods of operation at the grassroots level; taking care of life, protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers.

The issues discussed all originated from the practical operations of each party, thereby opening up practical suggestions for the two Trade Union organizations to continue to study and apply appropriately to the specific conditions of each locality.

Concluding the talks, Chairman of the Hanoi Labor Federation Nguyen Van Thang affirmed that the Hanoi Labor Federation is ready to coordinate with the Vientiane Capital Trade Union Federation to effectively implement the agreed cooperation contents, and at the same time study new cooperation programs suitable to practical requirements, especially in cadre training, organization building, union member development and care and protection of workers.
