On August 28, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor working group worked with Thai Nguyen province on developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions in the area. Attending and chairing the conference were Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Mr. Pham Thai Hanh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Mass Mobilization Committee of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee.
Also attending were Mr. Pham Viet Dung - Chairman of the Confederation of Labor of Thai Nguyen province, Mr. Nguyen Minh Dung - Chairman of the Audit Committee of the General Confederation of Labor of Vietnam; representatives of a number of agencies of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; Departments, Confederations of Labor of districts and cities of Thai Nguyen province.
Reporting on the development of union members and establishment of grassroots unions, Mr. Doan Manh Thang - Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial Federation of Labor - said that in the first 7 months of the year, 12,460 new union members were admitted and 48 new grassroots unions were established. The rate of cadres, civil servants and workers in grassroots union units joining the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor reached 91.9%. 100% of full-time union cadres attended training courses. Focus on knowledge training, propaganda and mobilization of workers to join the union organization.
The Thai Nguyen Provincial Confederation of Labor proposed that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor agree to allow business union members to pay union dues at the rate of 1% of the regional minimum wage. Increase the level of financial support for campaigning and propagating the establishment of grassroots unions. Soon issue instructions on organizing activities of Communist unions in the informal sector.
According to Mr. Pham Thai Hanh - Head of the Mass Mobilization Committee of Thai Nguyen province, there are basically no strikes in the province, every year over 85% of enterprises organize labor conferences and dialogues at the workplace, over 86% of non-state enterprises with trade unions sign collective labor agreements.
"In the coming time, the Provincial Confederation of Labor needs to continue to lead and direct trade unions at all levels to consolidate and develop union members and grassroots trade unions," Mr. Hanh suggested.
Speaking at the Conference, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan acknowledged and highly appreciated the results in caring for and protecting workers as well as developing union members and grassroots trade unions in Thai Nguyen province.
In the coming time, Vice Chairman Huynh Thanh Xuan proposed that Thai Nguyen province's Trade Union levels need to focus all resources and have specific solutions to implement the plan to develop union members and establish grassroots unions.
"Strengthen the review, re-evaluation and clearly identify enterprises that have and do not have trade unions so that there is a direction to develop union members and establish trade unions", Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan emphasized.
