Warm gifts from the union
Ms. Trinh Thi Hong Minh, born in 1977, is currently an mining worker at the Northern Transport and Logistics Center, Post and Post Transport and Logistics Company (Vietnam Post Corporation).
Ms. Minh and her husband have a daughter in grade 9 this year, her husband is a freelancer with an unstable income. Ms. Minh's salary is about 5 million VND/month. The whole family lives frugally to have money to pay for their daughter's education. Currently, Ms. Minh's whole family lives in an old 16m2 apartment in Thanh Xuan ward (Hanoi).
Ms. Minh said that she discovered breast cancer in 2019, and the cancer has metastasized into the bones.
"I cannot afford to take drugs, I only receive chemotherapy under the 3-month health insurance regime. Even though I am sick, I still have to go to work to earn an income, exercise, and forget about my illness..., said Ms. Minh.
Recently, Ms. Minh is one of the workers and laborers who received gifts from the Industry Union.
Recently receiving gifts from the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union, I was very touched and excited. The union donated 10 boxes of Ensure milk and 1 million VND in cash. Although the sharing is small, it helps me feel the concern of the Trade Union organization for workers in difficult circumstances...", Ms. Minh said emotionally.
Mr. Dang Ngoc Son, born in 1998, is currently an IT systems employee at the IT Operations Center (VNPT Information Technology Company).
Mr. Son and his wife have a son born in 2023, who is behind in motor mentally/chromatic abnormality and is deaf-mute from birth and is being treated for hearing loss. Since giving birth, Mr. Son's wife has not gone to work and stayed home to take care of her children.
Mr. Son and his wife are currently renting a house in Ha Dong ward (Hanoi). "My salary is about 10 million VND/month, provided that my wife does not go to work, my children are sick, and I rent a house in the city... so life is very difficult," said Mr. Son.
In early 2025, Mr. Son's son had to undergo ear snail surgery. The surgery cost 600 million VND, the couple had to ask for support from both paternal and maternal families and borrow more money to have enough money for their son for surgery.
During Workers' Month, Mr. Son received a gift from the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union of 1 million VND in cash and a voucher worth 300,000 VND.
I am very touched and grateful for the attention of the industry union to the workers, Mr. Son shared.
Accompanying and sharing
The Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union (VTC) currently manages 274 grassroots trade unions (CDCS) with 83,145 union members; of which, it directly directs 25 affiliated trade unions, including 5 grassroots trade unions directly above the grassroots level and 20 affiliated grassroots trade unions.
During Workers' Month and Action Month on occupational safety and health in 2025, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized many practical and meaningful activities, typically successfully organizing the launching ceremony of Workers' Month and Action Month on Occupational Safety and Hygiene in 2025; giving 450 vouchers (each voucher worth VND 300,000) to 450 union members and 20 gifts (each including VND 1,000,000 in cash and VND 500,000 in kind) to union members in difficult circumstances at the launching ceremony; organizing visits and supporting 298 union members with a total amount of VND 298 million.
Trade unions at all levels supported and visited 3,366 union members with a total amount of VND 3.366 billion. In particular, the Vietnam Trade Union cooperated with Vietnam Post Corporation to open preferential booths for union members and workers participating in purchasing goods; coordinated with partners to provide health care and medical examination for cadres, union members and workers.
During the Action for Children Month and Vietnam Family Day in 2025, the Vietnam Bank Trade Union supported 297 children of employees in the science and technology sector who are seriously ill, have birth defects, and are in families with especially difficult circumstances with a total amount of 297 million VND (each child 1,000,000 VND). In particular, the Vietnam Science and Technology Trade Union directly visited the 5 children, in addition to cash, each child was given an additional gift worth 600,000 VND. Trade unions at all levels supported 1,828 children with a total amount of over 1 billion VND.
