Celebrating Independence Day in a new house
The handover ceremony of construction funds for the Trade Union Shelter for Ms. Cao Thi Hai Yen - a teacher at Tay Mo 3 Secondary School (Hanoi) - took place when her husband was being treated at the hospital. Ms. Yen's family is in difficult circumstances: her father is a deceased wounded soldier, her mother is often treated for illness; her parents-in-law are old, in poor health, and have no stable income. Both Ms. Yen and her husband are physical education teachers, their main income is for living, raising two children and supporting their parents, so building a solid house is very difficult.
Thanks to the support of the Trade Union organization, colleagues and friends, her family built a house worth about 285 million VND. In which, the Hanoi Labor Federation supported 50 million VND from the Trade Union Shelter program.
In my family's difficult circumstances, the concern and support of Trade Union levels, agencies, and organizations through the Trade Union Home program is truly a very meaningful gift for my family" - Ms. Cao Thi Hai Yen emotionally shared. According to Ms. Yen, the support helps my family complete a safe and spacious house, and at the same time adds faith to overcome difficulties, feel secure in their work and celebrate Independence Day in the new house.
Dream of a house becomes reality
Born in 1996, Ms. Tran Thi Hieu, residing in Trang An village, Thanh Oai commune (Hanoi) has nearly 10 years of working at DHA Export Garment Co., Ltd. Nearly a decade of attachment to the business is also that many years she has diligently worked, saving every penny of salary to nurture her small family. But the life of the young female worker has continuously faced harsh upheavals. In 2019, she got married.
In 2021, while pregnant with her second child, her husband unfortunately had a serious accident, suffering a traumatic brain injury, losing his ability to work and being bedridden. Prolonged days of treatment made the already difficult family economy even more exhausted. To fight for her husband's life, the family had to borrow money everywhere.
In 2024, her husband passed away, leaving behind a young wife and two young children and unpaid debts. Since then, Ms. Hieu has become the only pillar of the family. Raising two young children alone, both taking care of daily life and shouldering loans and many worries, the salary of a worker at DHA Export Garment Co., Ltd. has become the main source of income for the three mothers and children.
Her family is considered a near-poor household in the locality. What always worries her is that for a long time, the three mothers and children have not had their own house. After each working day, she and her children still have to stay at her parents-in-law's house.
To help Ms. Hieu's dream of a home become a reality, the Trade Union organization, businesses, family and community have joined hands to help Ms. Hieu have a home. On a 150m2 land area given by her parents-in-law, a new house with a construction area of 72m2 started on April 3, 2026, has now been completed and put into use.
The total cost of building the house is 293.27 million VND. Of which, the Hanoi Labor Federation supported 50 million VND from the Trade Union Shelter program; grassroots trade unions supported 5 million VND; businesses where Ms. Hieu works supported 10 million VND; socialized sources supported 5 million VND. The remaining funds were accumulated and borrowed by the family.
Another Trade Union Shelter being built is another union member and worker reducing housing difficulties. The houses help union members and workers and their families feel secure in their work and study.
